This might be beneficial to noobs like me and others who just purchased their first smart device/PPC. I understand that the treo's screen size does not support every program right now, but for users before the Treo 800w, what did you use?

What are the software programs that you find useful?
What are the ones you cannot live without?

Paid or free does not matter.

SPB Diary - Userful, since it displays appointments, birthdays, messages on the Today screen.

Garmin or TomTom - Must have Nav

Live Search - Must have Nav and helps me search for stuff nearby

Sprite Backup - Useful for Backups of course

PushEffect - Must have (Sort of) Direct Push got Email so I don't have to keep checking for emails.

    Thanks Crazie.Eddie

I know that there is the "What does your 800w Today Screen look like?" thread that lists some programs, but I'm pretty sure others use programs that aren't on the today screen too.

Same here. I sent them a message already. If you haven't done so, send them a message as well.

Ok. It seems like the two weather Apps used most are weatherbug direct and weatherpanel.

why do you prefer one over the other?

    Message sent!

    Must Haves:

SPBTime - I have not found an alarm program that works better.

TreoAlerts - Spectacular alerts for Sms, Missed call, email, etc.

AgendaOne - PIM management. My first choice is Pocketinformant, but it is not yet compatible with the 800w.

    RescoExplorer - File management

    MagiKb - Keyboard control

    JuneFabrics PDANet - tethering

Smms - Picture mail app. A must have for Sprint users.

Here are the things that I will need to work for me to want to switch to the 800... But they are my must haves. These work so well on the wx, it would be bad to live without them.

    Weatherpanel
    PhoneAlarm Pro
AE Button Plus - Allows multiple functions per button, and one awesome task switcher/ender.
    SBSH ILauncher
SBSH Pocket Breeze - Calendar/Task management.
    Wisbar Lite
Small Menu - Cascading Start Menu
TreoAlert - Using it for LED Support
    Resco Explorer
Pocketmax Keylight - allows keyboard lights to be turned on and off.

    Illium Software
    -KeepTrack - Checkbook
-ListPro - Lists and more lists
    -EWallet - Password Keeper

And thats not even the games, calculators, and other small utilities that I like to have around. A lot of things that will have to be made compatible with the new resolution. Now I just need Alltel to release one for me

    Must-Have
MagiKb - Keyboard control (dbl-click for alt char and hold for uppercase)

    JuneFabrics PDANet - tethering

TomTom (w/GPSGate) - GPS Navigation using internal gps

pTunes - mp3 and streaming music player

    CorePlayer/TCPMP - Video player

iContacts (maybe...) - an iphone-like contact list

    Looking for:
    1. App or registry tweak to disable touchscreen while on a phone call.

    2. Way to convert my data (Contacts and Memos) from PalmOS to Windows Mobile (I have them as .prc files)

Persoanlly I try not to install a lot of program. Below is the program I am using.

    -KeepTrack (Illium Software) - Checkbook
-ListPro (Illium Software) - Lists and more lists
-EWallet (Illium Software) - Password Keeper
-Stock Manager (Tiny Stock) - Keep track your investment portfolio
-WorldMate (MobiMate) - Provide world clock and weather (I use the free edition)
    -eReader (eReader) - eBook Reader
-PHM RegEdit (PHM) - Free software. Seldom use but the size is small so keep it.

(All the software listed above have both Palm & WM version, except KeepTrack.)

I don't use Today Plug-in or shell program, I found that it slows down the system and make the Today screen looks complicated. I also try not to use the software which try improving the built-in function, such as Agenda One, Pocketinformant, etc. The software does provide additional functionalities but sometimes it caused the problem. Also when upgraded to new OS, I need to wait for the update. I categorize this kind of software as "Nice to have" not "Must have". That's why I use the built-in software as much as I can even it may not have a lot of features.
