The Skype part works about every 3rd call, and then the sound comes out of the back speaker, not the front, so it's like being on a speaker phone.

That's been the way of Skype on PPC forever so at least that's nothing new.

I installed last night and it seems to work fine. Maybe I'm missing something, but it seems to work as well as when I had it on my 700Wx and Mogul.
PI8 seems to work for me, too, with one possible exception which I note below. At least it does what it seems to be designed to do. Unfortunately, it appears to be a major step backwards from the Rev 4 I was using on my Wizard and 6945, which won't install on WM 6.1. It seems WebIS has given more emphasis to working with non-touchscreen devices. To wit: on rev 4 there was a bar at the bottom that had icons for all the views and the left softkey was for New items. PI8 has done away with the icon bar and replaced New with Views. So now to change from Calendar to Contacts I must tap (I'm a stylus guy, not a button guy) Views, then tap the Contacts icon instead of just tapping the Contacts icon on the icon bar. And if I want a new item, I have to tap Menu, then New, instead of the former New button. Two taps now instead of one for both those frequently used actions.

Here's where the possible exception to it working correctly comes in. There is a Menu item titled Touch Mode which appears to be non-functional. Selected or not, I don't notice any difference in PI8's behavior. I'm wondering if it is intended to give back the lost touchscreen functions I described above. I guess I'll check around for info on that.

Also, PI8 doesn't appear to have Utilities functions that rev 4 had to delete all appointments, all contacts, etc.

And there used to be a choice to make PI the default PIM. It seems to do that automatically now. Worse, I no longer can find the builtin calendar and contacts programs. They aren't on the Programs screen and I can't locate them in File Explorer. I'm wandering if PI8 deleted them??? Did they disappear from anyone else's 800w?

I've sworn by PI for 7 years since my PPC 2002 days, but now I'm swearing AT it and I may be looking for a different PIM. I've still got 12 days left on the trial to get used to it.

I downloaded the demo of memmaid 2.3 and found that it only scans up to IE History and stops in the Advanced Cleaner. Is this a limitation of the demo? Has anyone else tried on their 800w?

There is no limitation to the demo other than time.

A couple of posts ago I mentioned a couple of irritating things about Poket Informant 8, but nothing that appeared to not be working as designed. However, now I have found what I consider a real bug.

When adding an appointment and I press the Start date field, a screen of months comes up, as it should. But, I am unable to press on the proper date and have it react. It ignores the stylus press. Sometimes it reacts by returning to the entry screen, but with a completely different date than what I pressed. I can even press outside the calendars in a blank area and it will sometimes populate the date field with some weird date. To get the proper date I need to use the four-way buttons until the date is highlighted on the months calendar, then press the center button. Another concession to non-touchscreens or a bug? I think it's a bug - I can't believe WebIS would completely disable this particular screen for touchscreen users.

Does anyone with PI8 have this problem with the 800w? Does it work on 320x240 screens?

If this option is not selected, the column and row size are calculated based on the visible screen area and no scrollbar is displayed.
So sounds like you could get non-virtual 80 columns but you'd have to provide your own 4-pixel-wide font (such as comes with pssh and TuSSH on Palm OS)? I wonder if there's one out there in TrueType format that's freely available.

Also, the physical Alt-key populates ASCII characters and symbols that input when selected.
Excellent -- the Treo's Alt key has never worked on any of the Palm OS SSH clients.

Additionally, there is a popup command window for function keys and special keys. Though, the first time you use it, notice the close-tap is on the upper-right corner (where it should be) by sliding the window to the left. I was admittedly slow the moment I opened it and spent several minutes trying to figure out how to close it.
Heh heh -- good to know -- thanks.

I have Pocket Tunes installed with the 320x320 skin but when I attempt to turn off the screen, the music will play for about 10-15 seconds and then begin skipping!

I have the screen saver on but it seems that something goes into low power mode and causes the music to cease. When I turn the screen back on, everything resumes back to normal (and music plays again).

I'm hoping that I don't have to leave the dang screen on every time I play music with Pocket Tunes!!!!

PocketPuTTY works reasonably well for me. The fonts are slightly messed up (the program appears to think it has more room to display on the right, so you lose a couple characters - but that may be changeable with settings). Edit: making the font smaller doesn't help (that is, 6pt tahoma), now I get 3-4 characters cut off. But it's still usable in a pinch and hard to beat the price.

The first time you connect to a site with a new installation of PocketPuTTY you have to wait a long time and keep the screen alive by tapping it now and then, but only the black part of the screen. If you tap anything else, the security confirmation will come up behind whatever you clicked on and you can't get back to it. I've had this issue all the way back to WM5.

After that, connections still do take awhile - maybe 30 seconds, I haven't timed it yet.

Search for "SoftReset" on this forum, it is listed several places.

I recently found this and it is one of the best programs I have used so far, it's from the developer of Pocket Informant. The original version didn't work too well on the 800w, but there is a beta that works perfectly.
I have the side button set to start recording in the program, when you are finished, push send soft key and a voice note shows up in your inbox. I have a rule set to flag these emails with a blue flag.
Only one mailbox can be set in the send to field, I would like to send to my inbox or an assistant inbox. Great for sending reminders and notes when driving.

The developer says you can set different profiles and send to different mailboxes ie; your inbox or an assistant mailbox but I can't figure out the profiles he references here:

This is a link to the beta version, plus it is only $10.

You can add the AT&T VPN Client to the list of programs that do not work. It stops during the installation which requires a warm reset, then, when you launch the program (all of the contents are there) it seems to lock up the radio looking for the connection. I will play around with it more and report back.

tMan v0.9.10 is not working for me. It caused numerous problems like disabling my contacts. I'm gonna have to find something else to *close* programs, and soft reset, and assign buttons, and task switch.

Wow, I have it installed, but rarely use it due to the size of the dot.
