    All,

GoTreo Software is about to start developing for Windows Mobile devices! We would like to gather a list of projects that are most needed by the WinMo community. What would you most like to see added to WinMo? We want our first application to be one that appeals to the largest number of people.

Can you please EMAIL your suggestions to: WindowsMobile@GoTreoSoftware.com

    Thanks,

    Jeff

I vote for something to allow device based email rules.

Oh, to be able to play a specific alert tone for incoming emails that match certain criteria (by subject, sender, etc...). Right now the only rules allowed are those on the Exchange server (if you use one) and they don't allow for anything device-specific.

Anyone who's with me on this, email above!

I'd be happy with one that simply played a different tone for different mail boxes. i.e. - when I'm telecommuting - I want to know that it was a work email that came in vice a home email.

Cradle care's functionality (mainly autoforward on connect to a computer) would be awesome too!

While a full rules-wizard would rock, even something as simple as using the custom ringtone assigned to a contact for both inbound calls AND emails from that contact's addresses would get my money!

These are great ideas, but I would like it if you EMAIL them rather than posting so I can keep some confidentiality to the ideas.

    Good one.

They give us a device that can handle a zillion contacts with tons of numbers and emails per contact, not to mention the ability to check multiple accounts, and every single thing gets the same alert?!?!? What were they thinking?

Please vote for an app to give some relief to this severly under-addressed area.

(And kudos to the maker to ask for ideas in a place like this. If they listen, they're sure to make a hit.)

I notice you code LauncherX. You could code a start menu replacement that combines the style of e.g. the iPhone with the practicality and speed of the start menu, while still providing quick access to your most recently used apps. I would hope such an app would leave the today screen alone, but act as a direct replacement for the start menu, e.g. when you press the windows button or press on the windows flag onscreen, you get taken to your app and interface. Preloading the icons so the interface would load speedily would be desirable.

Porting the start menu system on WM 6.1 standard to WM Professional may be a good start. Whatever you do should work just as well with they keyboard and d-pad as with touch.

Ideally it should provide quick assess to the control panel applets also.

Again, I hope whatever you code is stylish, but still preserves the speed of the interface and the functionality.

    Ringtones for e-mail already exists.

I dont think there is any point in keeping the ideas to e-mail. If you leave it in public you will get good feedback and a better wish-list, and for example existing software would be exposed, and even if you kept it private, if your idea was good it would be cloned in 2-3 weeks.

Read the first post. We can discuss here all we want, but you have to EMAIL your ideas.

Here's what I sent. After phrog's post, I expanded my idea. It actually sounds like a workable app now. *fingers crossed*

Here’s my biggest beef. Windows mobile lets us store tons of contacts, each with multiple email addresses and phone numbers. It also lets us check multiple email accounts simultaneously, yet every single inbound message plays the same alert.

I’m not sure how the message queue works, but if you could extend some of the rules to inbound SMS too (specifically the alerts) I think you’d really have something. Microsoft really missed the boat when they left out a simple rules wizard for the device.

The rules should be qualified much like the standard PC based Outlook client-based rules.
    • Incoming email account (so folks can tell work from play)
    • Sender’s email address (for those special folks)
    • Subject line contains <criteria> (to handle most automated emails or alerts)
    • All Email
    • Ideally, rules could be set to be active only during specified hours

The actions could be varied as well.
    • Play specific alert tone
    • Move to folder
    • Auto-save attachment to location (when you only want to save from certain people/accounts)
    • Auto-reply (could be used to reply to some or all, or only at certain times like when you’re asleep or in a meeting)

I’m sure more could be added. A quick glance at the Outlook rules wizard could add more inspiration. Personally, I’d buy it for the alerts alone.
