You got me hopeful and excited that they might have announced WM 6.1 for the Treo 750.
But that link says nothing about WM6.1. Unless I'm missing something.

Could you elaborate on your post and what you're pointing out?

Taylorh, you have to read between the lines.

Article says that the 750 will be made compatible with Windows Mobile Device Manager. A quick search on that product indicates that it's features are enabled by WM 6.1.

    http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobi...r/default.mspx

"Mobile Device Manager 2008, enabled by Windows Mobile 6.1, is a solution that gives organizations enhanced on-device security and over-the-air policy enforcement. It allows IT Professionals to more easily manage phones within the organization, and gives mobile employees access to confidential information on corporate networks with firewalls."

So that IS good news. However, keep in mind this is Palm we're talking about. The date on that article is October 2007 and in it they claim the update will be available second half of '08. Anyone remember how long it took us to get WM6 after it was announced?

6.1 is available from XDA-Developers web site. I am running the generic version - absolutely no problems. Has the IE, One-Note and other improvements.

    Easy SD-Card update process.

True, but I believe that's a cooked ROM. I've yet to hear of one that was officially made for the 750 being available.

I've got a company owned device for business use, so I'm not risking an unofficial home-cooked ROM.

Besides, last time I looked the instructions for loading it seemed about as clear as mud with multiple radio FW etc... Hopefully they've ironed all that out. If you know of a set of easy to follow instructions, I'm sure a link would be well received by those willing to try.

You are right fastlerner it is a cooked rom, thre have been no official rom update for the 750

I don't do cooked ROMs. Did the leaked beta of the WM6.0, but that wasn't cooked and only after waiting forever. I'm glad I did because it took forever to get the official release.

Anyway thanks for spelling it out fastlerner. I was trying to figure out how an Oct.2007 press release translated to WM6.1. LOL.

Smartphone and Pocket PC Magazine says Palm has announced WM6.1 for the Troe 750. I don't know if that was an assumption, an error, or concluded from this press release. So I'm not sure of the validity of that, but it does give me hope.

I don't think palm has plans to release a new WM Treo for GSM/UMTS within the next 12 months so it only makes sense that they'd release WM6.1 to extend the life of the 750.

I hope they do. I love my 750. I went to the tilt for many months. I came back to my 750 and forgot just how much better it is overall.
I want the Treo 800w on GSM/UMTS, but whatever. It's just a phone.
    In time.

The official statements from Palm that I have seen do not list the 750 as a device to receive the upgrade. I think a lot will depend on what Palm has for a GSM WM device later this year - I have not seen any hints of a new one.

That's funny, I thought a "Press Release" was about as official a public statement as a company could make. (See link in first post.)

Of course, Palm has never been one to make a statement about an impending release, then calmly pass the due date and clamp down and not say another word until the day it actually comes out. Can you say "Windows Mobile 6"?

So far that press release is about the ONLY thing I've seen to indicate the 750 may get 6.1. If anyone else has more, please post.

6.1 for 750? maybe, maybe not.
Or perhaps the only way you'll get 6.1 Officially is to pay $529.
    Just call me Berd.

Sorry to burst any bubbles, but I run WMDC with my WM6 750. WMDC is required for Vista, but does not require 6.1.

Still, I am going to try the cooked WM6.1 ROM for the Treo. I recently experienced the dreaded hard reset lock up, so had to flash the ROM with an official 6.0 file. It went so easy I decided it is worth trying the 6.1 ROM. I can always fall back to the 6.0 flash if necessary.
    Palm Pilot->Palm 1000->Palm Vx->Palm VII->Treo 180->Treo 600->Treo 650->Treo 750->....and then?

Windows Mobile Device Center is different from Microsoft System Center Mobile Device Manager 2008 which WM 6.1 supports.

I stand corrected. If I read the MS site correctly, this is the MS answer to RIM?

And the good news is yes, it is WM6.1 centric and Palm did commit to 750 support (just not when ).

Seems like the new Treo PRO is WM6.1 .
Perhaps this is intentional product differentiation ??
