    Hello all,

New to the 750 and Palm world. I'm coming from an BB 8830. Loving all the new features.

    Any tips/tricks worthwhile?

    Any FAQ I should read-upon?

As for reading, I'd start by paging through the manual that came with the device. You'll find lots of little tips and tricks in there.

For instance, holding down the stylus (or center navigation button) on an item will bring up a context menu. It's the Windows Mobile equivalent of a right-mouse-click.

As for the serial, lots of folks have that issue. You can either contact Palm (via phone or chat) and they can generate a serial for download purposes, or you can load the unbranded ROM from this forum. (It's the offical Palm ROM for an unbranded 750, but the installer was modified to let it install on carrier branded 750's as well.)

If you want the ROM, let me know and I'll send you links.

    Thanks for the info!,

    Also I've encountered several problems....

After properly closing programs by hitting X or "ok". They still seem to be running when I look in the Running Programs list. They can be closed but only through the Running Programs function. Is this normal??

    Secondly..

When I sync up the phone, I cannot sync w/ Contacts/Addresses/Calender etc..

I can only view files in the Handheld, but I can't sync to back up the device.

    Lastly,

The "E" icon up to always seems to stay in data icon like I'm about to receive something after I have already sent a message. The icon stay like that unless I Turn off the phone and boot it back up.

As opposed to it just staying in regular "E" icon...
Again advise would be very helpful.

    Thanks.

Yes, it is normal for programs to keep running after "closing". You can get third-party add-ons to change that behavior.

Do you have Outlook installed? On the Treo, open the HotSync application and see if the categories to sync contacts, etc. are checked for your PC.

The large E icon is normal if you are in an EDGE area and have no active data connection. If you recently used data, you'll see the smaller E with the two arrows indicating an active connection. It usually goes back to the larger (idle) E after a while, unless you have something that periodically is using the data connection.

You can't do this while you have the phone connected to the PC. Disconnect first.

With your device disconnected, open activesync on the PC. Delete the device.

Reconnect the device and set the relationship up from scratch. Make sure to select everything you want to sync.

Are you sure you have Outlook and not Outlook Express?

Outlook Express is on every MS machine, but Outlook is part of MS Office. Activesync will not work with Express.

And if I remember correctly, Outlook should also be on your 750 CD. I didn't bother because I had Office 2007 installed.

Actually, Outlook 2002 is provided on a separate CD.

Mine only came with 1 CD and Outlook is on it.

Strangely, they stuck it in a directory named \Outlook. Go figure.

    I am new to AT&T from a Sprint 700wx

I went to fastlerners links and saw AT&T Proxy server. I have an unlocked 750 from Palm. What is this Proxy Server and why would I want it?

    Thanks

When I enable sounds for keypad input, the sound doesn't keep up with my typing speed and causes the entries to be sporadic. I have less thrid party apps installed on the 750 than I did on my 700wx, and I never had a problem on the 700.

Is there a setting I cant find? Do you think third party apps are screwing with something? Any known issues like this?

Should I just hard reset and start over?

    Thanks!

One thing I hate about the 750 (and I know hate is a strong word) is that when I press the end button, it returns to the today screen while in an app., it doesn't go to black screen like with the 700. You then have to press end again to go to black screen. I saw this in the Palm FAQ, but they dont list a solution.

    Is there a solution?

    Thanks

The proxy server, when enabled, tells Internet Explorer to use AT&T's cache server which speeds up web browsing. If you are not using the AT&T cellular data connection for your web browsing, turn it off.

The function of the end button is fixed, as far as I know. I hate it too. It was deliberate.

There's an workaround, press option and end key. Option is the button right under the A, normaly you use that one for entering numbers.

(Note: Proxy setting ONLY seems to affect IE.)

The proxy connection also gives you access to AT&T MediaNet pages. Without the proxy, you are straight on the net and can't access those pages.

For those using Wifi cards, the proxy has to be DISABLED to surf over the wifi connection. Otherwise, it's still trying to hit the proxy from your wifi network and you won't be able to hit anything (since the proxy server is not accessible from open internet connections.)

While the proxy does somewhat streamline your browsing (which can speed things up) it also introduces some latency (which can slow things down).

The app provides a simple checkbox to turn the proxy on and off at will.
