This is the most amazing thing I've read in long time... Who's up for some ROM COOKING?!?

I'm waiting for Blasphemous Prime and a couple other people to try and post results. With the history of Palm being so tough to cook, I won't believe it until I see (hear) it.

Would open a lot of possibilities if it works though!!!! (can anyone say '700WX custom ROMs'? LOL)

I know! How amazing would that be! I'll be tuned in on this one for sure

    From my research,
It is not possible because the 750 is GSM phone app... same goes for using a 680 rom in a 700p/755p

As to custom roms, the 700wx is not HTC based so many people can't get support from xda-developers

That is exactly why I am waiting, I have kept track of this type of modification on the WX for a while, and nothing but 'Treo can't be cooked, can't be cracked, can't....' (you get the idea), and then all of a sudden a done deal ROM cooker is out. I would love for this to work, and I hope the OP is correct, but I will wait and see.

As far as XDA goes....second only to PPCGeeks, I have gotten many apps and suppord from XDA, so no complaints there!!!

Well... If we used a tool like this
    http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=238945
to get the 700wx's ROM, then again on any 6.0, with some investigation and file comparison it shouldn't be too far off

Cool, this does indeed look like a way to change the 700WX ROM, potentially loading at least some of WM6.

Note that some of the 750 ROM may indeed be re-used, just one of the GSM bits. Thus we have the potential to gain some of Palm's WM6 customization.
  8. #8
I think we need a WM6 CDMA version of the rom first. I am not familiar with which phones is CDMA with WM6

ie: One thing I don't understand is why the Treo 750 is considered HTC/xda developers based while the 700wx is not. both are by Palm?

Also we need a failsafe way to restore if something goes wrong. I don't want a brick from experiments. ( you can look at my signature)

    MODERATOR:

Please re-title this discussion to be something like:

    Treo 700WX ROM Customization

That should help to get this discussion really going.
  10. #10
westronic is right, I can see where a lot of people are missing out on this because they don't know what the title is refering to.

I am still watching both here and PPCGeeks, and haven't seen anybody actually attempt this yet. I am thinking of purchasing a brick off ebay, or donating to a real programmer to buy a brick (can't hurt those...right?), because I can see great opportunities here (A_C's trilogy cooked in)!!!

Just a tip, if you follow the (semi-coherant) instructions Waffles provided, the NapaBoth.nb0 and imgfs_raw_data.bin files don't get updated by the different tools. That is to say, regardless of that changes you make the date modified and size doesn't get updated.

What I did was broke the NapaBoth.nb0 file down, then used DelFile to remove about 3 megs of files I didn't want. I then rebuilt the NapaBoth, broke it down again (after removing the imgfs_raw_data file), then dumped imgfs_raw_data to verify the files were gone. It works.

However it seems you can only edit the Windows directory....

I haven't tried flashing using my tweaked update. Gotta figure out what broke ActiveSync first....

Did you flash your cooked rom back? I did with my 700p to 755p because I partly understood flashing from the iiixe, Tungsten days, but WM flashing is quite new to me.

First flash worked (dropped a lot of the extra programs that come with it). Second flash didn't (probably took out too much stuff, or the flash hung).

Not sure what broke it. Nothing I took out should have effected it like that. I'll have to dig in further and try and track down the file that was required...

    Any ideas on de-bricking?

Can't you just flash the ROM back to what was working?

It's stuck at the first splash screen and doesn't budge. The flashing tool that runs off the PC requires that you basically have an activesync connection, and the one that runs out of the SD card you need to be in WM2005....
  18. #18
Thats why we need to progress carefully...

We can try installing WM5 AKU 3.3 first...

Kocoman, have you done any research on debricking? How'd you get setup for the USB debricking on the 700p?

I'd be curious to talk to you about that. You can find my contact info in my profile. I have access to AIM, e-mail, or GTalk at work (ebagola [at] gmail <dot> com)
