Ok, so I'm in Europe, currently roaming on o2. It does not work for data, however. After messing around with the settings, it is still NOT working.

Hmm...the page with the frequencies...I don't know if that's the culprit but under Windows Mobile, you can set it to Auto, or two Manual settings, and they are, of course, the North American bands, and the international bands. It says "There is a problem connecting to the GPRS network in your registered home network.", right after it attempts, and then fails to connect. Arghhh...

I just now set it to tri-band int'l (900/1800 for voice/2100 for data), and left the GSM/UMTS on Auto through the Wireless Manager on Settings. And again, no dice. It says something like wireless modem has disconnected. I saw AT&T for a second, though....??? Should I use the "dialing rules" and select "Mobile"??? Under Network Management, I can choose between "My ISP", I edited it, and sure enough, it was set to AT&T, so I selected "Auto Pick", and still nothing. I checked T-Mobile (which o2 uses for data) and same crap...This sucks...And yes, Ihave the right plan...:

Anything you can help me with???

Data roaming should work without you having to change any settings. In my experience, when it does not, fiddling around with the settings will not help you. The host network has just ****ed up and is not allowing you access. The only thing that does help, I find, is to try another host network. So try T-mobile or Vodafone instead of o2.

Okay, so you're in Europe and roaming. From what you mentioned, it sounds like you have an ATT device, but since you didn't specify your home network, I'm guessing it is also ATT.

I'm assuming that you activated international roaming for the voice service as you mentioned no issues with voice.

But did you enroll in a global data plan? AT&T charges $24.99 per month for 20MB of data in 36 supported countries. Judging by the list it looks like the O2 network is supported under that plan in Germany, Great Britain and Ireland.

    Here's your list of countries.
    http://www.wireless.att.com/learn/in...ect-global.jsp

Here's the pricing. Skim down to the bottom part labeled "Data Global Plans for Smartphones and PDAs".
    http://www.wireless.att.com/learn/in...d-packages.jsp

If you're NOT an AT&T customer, then you'll need to check your home carrier to make sure they support international data roaming to the country you're in, how much it costs, and if you're enabled for it.

Oh yeah, the "list of countries" link above also shows what other data networks support their roaming in those countries.

For instance, in Great Britain the O2 network has limited coverage, but you could also use Hutchison 3G or Vodafone.

fastlerner...love your sense of logic...Yes, I have AT&T, yes, I'm enrolled in the $24.99 for 20MB data, as well as have expanded int'l roaming enabled. I'm in Germany now visiting the folks.

I tried other carriers to the extent that it would allow me to. Outside of starting over with a hard reset, what can you offer, fastlerner...

P.S. By the way, I don't understand why everyone refers me to that list!?!?!? Hmm...It's a quad band EDGE, and tri-mode 3G phone, so why do the frequencies matter? This is no shot at you, sir, no, not at aallll....It leads me to believe that I'm missing something looking at that charming list!???

    Thanks again! Nice avatar!

EDIT: I also have a Samsung D407 that I brought with me. Going online also does NOT work on it. It was just roaming on Vodafone...Arghhh...

EDIT2: Again, it's only a DATA problem with roaming, NOT voice! Thanks all!

I absolutely have no helpful suggestion for you, infact I may make you feel worse by stating that I have travelled with my Treo to Spain, Portugal, Singapore & Cambodia. I left everything on Auto and data worked seemlessly as ofcourse did voice.

A hard reset is obviously not the solution since the D407 has the same problem also.

    Sorry.

Alright, issue resolved. I was on the phone with them and they said it was on their end, and that I hadn't configured anything wrong. They said to roam online with the $24.99 20MB int'l plan, you have to have a domestic PDA plan. Man, such chaos. We had a 3-way conference call and they were explaining their own policies and plans to each other. Pretty funny. But everything's fine now. Works great. I talked the one rep. into a credit and I got $50, so that's cool. It took about an hour with all the transferring to different depts., etc.

I hope this will help someone.

Aah! That's why I never had a problem, I do have a domestic PDA plan.

Glad it worked out for you and thanks for sharing the solution.

Calling your carrier was about to be my next suggestion, as it was begining to sound like they didn't have something configured right.

    Glad you got it going!

fastlerner...Awesome picklist! Do you know when I will purchase my 800w??? It will coincide with its release, so no, you won't need a magic 8 ball!

Hmm... I haven't been following the new devices too close, so I googled it up. According to this article, the 800w should be out in July.
    http://www.mobilemag.com/content/100/340/C14979/

However, while it thoughtfully includes GPS and WiFi, it's a Sprint device which means CDMA, not GSM.

So, it's a no go with AT&T compatibility and you can forget about roaming overseas. CDMA is pretty much restricted to North America.

Only news articles I could find referencing the possibility of a GSM version were over 6 months old.

Right, that's what I've been hearing on its release date in North America, and I know Sprint being CDMA. However, last time around, the GSM version of the 750 came out 9/12/08, on Vodafone. What had seemed to be an onslaught of false promises and delayed release dates with NO reasons given, NONE, it was finally released on 1/8/2008, virtually FOUR months later.

I won't that mistake again. Vodafone has been saying that it will be released around June on its carrier, so I'll grab up one to three from them, as my entire family is on Vodafone, and they're very eligible for upgrades, and none of them care to upgrade. Then I'll flash an English ROM on it, and wait for the AT&T release sitting back on Santa Monica Beach browsing/GPS'ing, etc., and, oh yea, getting a surf in every now and then. I'll sell it when AT&T comes out with it. Sounds better than angrily waiting for one sitting behind a keyboard. Been there. Done that. And anticipation can be fun. That time, it wasn't.

Which brings me to the likelihood of that happening all over again. Does Sprint have some kind of exclusivity on on the 800w? The 750 and its release date was, quite frankly, embarrassing for both Palm and AT&T. They missed the Thanksgiving, and Christmas shopping season, all the while infuriating its loyal customer base, myself included. If someone can cite a RELIABLE source confirming that it will ONLY be 1-2 months, I'll let it go, but anything more, or a lack of response, my first 800w will be Vodafone-branded. I bought my brother a Treo 750v recently, and he loves it. There is not a SINGLE difference between his Vodafone one, and my AT&T one, and Voda did away with its annoying bright red branding on the exterior. I can only tell mine apart from his when he's over, is the fact that his is still virtually brand new, whereas mine has seen its share of volatile use.

I have not seen any Sprint exclusivity. In fact, not even a rumor, and please folks, I'm NOT stating one with this, K???

fastlerner, what's on your mind about this? Any insight? Do you know anything? lol...I'll take a PM'd rumor and noone will ever know.

    Take care,

    Crunch

I'd love to give you a rumor, but it sounds like you've heard more than I on this one.

Just be careful flashing the OS. If I'm not mistaken, there ARE some differences between the 750v and 750, though I have no idea what they might be. Seems like I remember folks not being able to flash a 750v with a standard 750 rom.
