While it maybe painfull for some of you to see these questions again, I don't believe all have been addressed concisely in one thread. I would really appreciate some help.

I have been a treo user since the 270! Got every new device(GSM) the day it was availble.270-600-650-750 I'm techy but not to technical.

I got the 750 as soon as it was availble from ATT/Cingular in Jan of 2007. I had a coworker that was familiar with windows mobile and was able to assist in every way I needed. (Actually I bet he came to treocentral and xda for answers). He is no longer around and unfortunately neither is my orgional 750 (it fell a very long way from a 8 story building).

So I just got what may be one of the last "Cingular" treos.

It is brand new with following:

    Software:
    TREO750-1.13-CNG
    Hardware:
    P1
    Firmware Version:
    1.17.20.00

    Windows Mobile Ver 5.0
    OS 5.1.195 (Build 14959.2.3.2)

I know he updated my origional phone in a variety of ways. So here is the help need.

    1) What needs to be updated and what is the best way.
    2) What order should each of the items be Updated.
    3) Phone is obviously locked.

I am looking for best way to update as much I can. I know very little but can learn except the threasds/radio version/6.0 vs. 6.1/firmware all get kindof confussing. Not to mention the multiple ways of doing the upgrades and even mention of chaging extensions.

Thanks in advance. I think neatly providing this info may help a lot of wouldbe Treo semi-technical users become effective and proud users.

Another (and arguably cleaner) version of WM6 is the unbranded 2.27 ROM. Go to the thread linked below for instructions:

    http://discussion.treocentral.com/sh...d.php?t=162637

Post #7 in this thread tells you how to use the Desktop method. Post #6 (using the link in post #1) provides how to use the SD Update method. I'd recommend trying the Desktop method first and only using the SD method if your PC has problems executing the update.

Then you'll want to add the ATT Proxy Manager (missing from the unbranded ROM), instructions to it are in Post #8 at this thread:

    http://discussion.treocentral.com/sh...d.php?t=157005

You can read those threads (and several others) to understand why you might want the unbranded ROM over the ATT ROM.

Avoid the WM6.1 ROMs for now -- they are "cooked" ROMs from third party hackers oversees.
