You can't actually remove them without creating a custom ROM. But most of these are just URL shortcuts and mainly take up space in menus.

    Yes. Load the unbranded ROM.

if you learn how to mount your extended rom, there is a folder there called partition. There is one file in there called CapPackage.PXP. Open that file with winzip (on your desktop). One file in the PXP file is called CapData.xml. Edit that file with a XML file editor. You remove references to bloatware you do not want.

this is what the contents of my WM6 CapData.xml file ended up looking like (no ====):

this is the list of files that ended up in my CapPackage.PXP file:
    ATT-RadioImage-Goodbye.bmp
    ATT-RadioImage-Hello.bmp
    ATT_Settings.prov.xml
    CapData.xml
    CingularCert.prov.xml
    Class3_PCA_G2_v2.prov.xml
    Jarguar_RM_01.cab
    MSFPHeartbeat.prov.xml
    PackageVersion.txt
    ProxyManager.CAB
    RSA1024RootCA.prov.xml
    RSA2048RootCA.prov.xml
    VeriSign_C3_PCA_G3v2.prov.xml
    VerisignClass3Server.prov.xml
    entrust_gssl_ca.prov.xml

you edit the CapData file to remove references to only those files you are going to leave out of the CapPackage file. You replace the CapData file in the CapPackage file when you are done editing. You replace the CapPackage file on your Treo in the extended rom partition folder, and then do a hard reset. This way you can get rid of all the ATT bloatware. This not only cleans up your main rom, also ends up leaving you a ton of room in your extended rom. As you can see I left in the att radio image stuff which I could have easily removed, but I like the att death-star image instead of the palm image when turning my radio off and on... So one mans bloatware is another mans desired software, so my list may not suit you. It is my understanding that the cingular certificate stuff is necessary for your device to work properly. If you don't understand the file/entry it is probably better to leave it in.

You can always change your radio on/off image by overwriting the .bmp files with ones of your own choosing without the need for the extended ROM hacking.

unless of course the bmp files are write protected.

While many files are protected, I did not have a problem overwriting these two. The boot splashscreen is another story.

I think I may have actually caught a virus at one point because one day suddenly I was able to replace the boot splashscreen. When it started acting flaky I did a hard reset and reload and it was write protected again.
