I have a bunch of contacts that I need to edit their information on, add addresses, email addys, etc. It gets cumbersome on the Treo 750, and I dont want to sync my contacts with Outlook cause I will have some serious problems with my work computer and contacts if I do. I just want a program (hopefullyi free) that I can download and look at & modify the contacts stored on my phone and update them and sync back with the phoen and they be changed. I recently changed sim cards and since the stupid SIM card didnt store multiple #'s for one person I have to do alot of combining and deleting of irrevelant contacts now.

    Any suggestions?

Why not sync with your home PC?

So far as I know, it's either ActiveSync+Outlook or use MissingSync (mac only).

Or just input everything into your work PC in Outlook and tag it as Category: Personal, wipe the Treo, and sync. That gives you the best of both worlds as you have all your personal and business contact info with you wherever you go and you can just continue to sync moving forward.

arg... i dont want my phone contacts integrated into Outlook 03' @ work & because I dont want them in any way associated with Exchange. I was hoping there was another PIM program I could export the contacts to and edit, then update them on my device.

Activesync was designed to work with Microsoft products. In this case, Outlook. Even if you edit your contacts with another program, you'll still have to go through Outlook to get them on your device as that's what it syncs with.

The easiest way to do what you are asking is to find a PC with Outlook that is NOT synced to your exchange server, and partner with it to do all your changes.

Just out of curiosity, you said you don't want to associate with exchange. Do you not sync your treo with exchange for wireless email? It's actually another plus for contact management as any changes made on either the PC or the Treo update on the other almost instantly.

I also used to fight the idea of having personal contacts on my work machines. Once I finally gave in, life became so much easier. It's reasonably secure as well as your contacts list is not accessible by other users.

yea I use exchange for email (im the sys admin @ work as well) but I didnt want to see my contacts when I'm in outlook because I didnt want them stored here at work, and if they were I would want them all set as personal, could I make that a global change before syncing them and also not have any of my work contacts go to my phone because I have a crapload of vendors, etc. that I dont care to have on my "personal" phone"?

You can somewhat do that. It's not as clean as you might like, but you can try this.

Assuming you have no categories set on your Treo, make sure everything in Outlook has been assigned a category. When you sync, then you can go into Outlook and view by category. Everything without a category assigned will be at the top. Then you can highlight all and set a category for it.

Make all required edits and resync. In your contacts list on the Treo, set a filter to display only your "personal" category, or delete all the work contacts.

Like I said, not as clean as you would like, but it gets there.

Another alternative (with no spare PC) is to back all your contacts up to a PST, then wipe them out. Then sync the treo, get everything straight, and resync to put it back on the device. Last, wipe the contacts again on the PC and restore from your PST. From that point forward, you would have to manage contacts strictly from the device.

Ideally, your situation would be easily solved with a spare PC running Outlook (or your Home PC) that's not tied to Exchange. Then set a relationship and just sync contacts.

I don't see why not. So long as you have Outlook and ActiveSync and it recognizes the Treo you should be good to go.
