Certainly this is a tricky issue: we know from internal Sprint & Verizon docs that the 800w was delayed from late 2007 till ?, so in that sense, it is delayed.

OTOH, since we don't know why it is delayed and also the fact it was never officially announced by anyone, it's not really fair to judge the situation from our ignorance of the matter.
I just came in from the other side... the oracle said that the 800 would be released in August 2008. No exact date was provided since the oracle said that a small electrical fire caused his device to short. Oh, well.

Oh, and the oracle provided me the specs for the treo 975L.

The "L" stands for last device, not linux. Sorry.

    Ok, my bit of fun.

Although, I think it is good to have these threads so that people can hash out info and get some "facts" even if not really facts. Well, good to hash through the BS and get to the truth. Truth is that no one knows anything right now. No one has a clue what is happening at Palm right now. I doubt if anyone would be surprised if they went to Palm.com and saw a sign that said "closed for good."

I think a lot of people would be surprised if the 800 were released anytime soon. It does not look like it.

I thought summer or by September at the latest. Palm never releases anything timely.

But to be fair, neither has Sony Ericsson lately. Is the Xperia really around the corner? I wonder about that too, since SE failed to release a few phones timely.
HP has officially ruined it's own platform and kicked webOS loyalists and early TouchPad adopters to the curb. You think after you drop it like a hot potato and mention it made no money and is costing you money, anyone else wants it??? Way to go HP!!

And some people are fools to keep believing their hype. HP has shown they will throw webOS under the bus and people are still having faith in them??? News flash: if it's own company won't stand behind it, it's finished!

wouldnt a 755p be a better leap forward than a centro- same form factor- much more stable...

depends who you talk to. In the 755p forum there is a debate on what is the best device centro or 755p . Arguments go both ways tho it seems everyone agrees the battery is better on the 755p for some reason. With the rom upgrade it looks like 755p is really stable now.

To echo the comments above, it's really user-preference. Actually, I have never heard anyone suggest the Centro is un-stable so I can't see how the 755p would be any more--they may be equal but that's it. The "same form factor" is not really a leap forward as much as a status-quo argument.

There is also the price & size issue with many enjoying the smaller form-factor, lower price of the Centro.

I meant more stable than the 700p as mentioned by the OP- Centro is too small RE: texting for adults

You can also do the 755p rom update on the 700p and buy one of the small antennas. Basically a 755p but with a standard SD card. But this is way off topic.

Any more news on the 800w? I saw this, but it looks like somebody basically put all the rumors into a spec sheet format.

    Introduction / Preview : Palm Treo 800w

The Palm Treo 800w is the upgrade version of Treo 750w. It should be running the latest Windows Mobile 6.1. Other features include a 2 megapixels camera, 256MB memory, MicroSD expansion slot, aGPS, WiFi 802.11g, Bluetooth 2.0+EDR and EVDO Rev. The QWERTY keyboard and screen (320x320 pixels) is similar to the 750.

    Gotcha.

btw, I know 11 adults, including myself, who don't find the keyboard too small for texting The keys are the same size as other treos, just closer together.

It is going to be interesting to see just how close people will come at guessing what the 800w will have on board. Although, I think most are good educated guesses based on (at least some) research.

It doesn't look nearly as good as the 750. At the same time, it's not too shabby either. Hmm...I hate the way the Centro looks, and it certainly reminds me of it.

ASUS just came out with a potential Treo form factor competitor.

I've been out of touch with when the new inevitable upgrade of the Treo 750 240x240 to a 320x320 res. LCD will come, along with GPS, WiFi, more memory, and maybe even a better camera. Turns out it will apparently have ALL of the above. The screen also appears to be a tad bigger than the 750's. Does anyone know if it is or not?

Does anyone have a half-way reliable rumor as to a release date? That was a contradiction in terms lol...but not inappropriate in Palm's case.

I've always wondered why no one else has came out with a form factor mimicking the treo (touch screen etc).

This could be a problem for Palm especially if they make it to market first.

Is is me or does this look like a Palm 800w with a different skin...I mean the keyboard buttons look suspiciously the same as well as the upper hard buttons....isn't Asus the ODM of the Centro?
