I haven't really seen anything concrete, or is the information just not available yet?

I'm doubtful that HTC is involved with the 800w or rather, I'm not convinced--yet

That article saying Palm was moving back to HTC also said iMate was--well, turns out, they didn't.

So, in your opinion, what manufacturer do you think is doing the device specs?

my bet would be Inventec or Chi-Mei...with the former reportedly the manufacturer of the Centro.

Personally I love the build of the Centro, so I'd be happy with that...whereas HTC, I'm more mixed...jmo.

I find the Centro to be creaky and generally not sturdy, whereas the 700wx was built rock-solid. JMO

It really is hard to believe who is designing and building what these days.

The Dell I heard is also developed and designed in Taiwan.

It must be so tight lid that nothing gets leak out for the 800w so far.

Buy a Nikon or a Canon. I prefer not to have a camera at all. Takes up space I could use for WiFi or more battery. I have NEVER taken a picture with a cell phone.

Then again... I shoot with a Nikon D3, so I guess I'm a little biased...

Agree with you... either include a camera that is worth a crap or dump it.

Well it is a little different for me since I have a data plan. I would never use wifi anyway. I guess it just depends on how you use your phone. I agree, give us a worthy camera, or dump it. Even 2.0 is becoming outdated.

I used to use my camera all the time to shoot and send pictures on my Mogul. Now that Sprint is blocking mms I havent used it since.
I guess why bother giving us a camera that sucks if we can't even do anything except store the bad pics.

At least before, I could send the crappy pics to my wife's Treo!
So if we get a camera for Sprint at least- then they should give us the ability to send it without a lot of hassle.

Well, I personally have felt that the camera in my Treo 650 sucks, but I am very pleased that I had it with me to take the very first picture of my son on the scale just after he was born. Sure, it would've had much better picture quality if I had my DSLR with me, but the convenience of having something that could allow me to see all 9lb 14oz of him when he was only 5 minutes old... well. So yeah, I transferred that picture (along with a few others from that crappy 650 camera) to my folder with all his other pictures.

Of course, I really wish I had something with at least 3 megapixels, and not too much noise, but unless the camera is completely non-usable, I'd say why not include it? I'd rather have a fairly crappy picture rather than none at all... but at the same time, I'd like the CDMA carriers in the US to get some smartphones with really good cameras for once!

They are? I rarely use mms myself, and I find it kinda sucks because it has to use the website, but I didn't realize that there was some blockage going on.

For WM they are...I have to a write up on for WMExperts hopefully tonight/tomorrow.

Part of the camera issue/quality is related to the qualcomm chipsets which evidently can't handle large MP processing, see here.

Ah, I still haven't actually gotten over to WM yet... so that's why I wasn't aware of any blockages yet. Good to know.

So, I guess the idea of an outboard chip (outside the qualcomm chipset, assuming there's a way to allow that chip to interface with the chipset, or perhaps a DMA interface) to handle the immediate camera processing (read from sensor & do post-processing) at the cost of physical space, heat, battery power, development time, and money just wasn't going to fly, especially since "tech companies have to pay for vowels".
