Dude, no need to use PDAnet with WM6. Just connect your treo via USB, and open "Internet Sharing". Tell it to connect and your PC will recognize your treo as a network device.

As long as your treo can get to the internet, it should be able to share the connection.

If you're having trouble reaching the net in general, call Cingular customer service. Since they've been selling treo's for a while, they should be able to help you configure your network settings so you can get what you're paying for. If the rep you get is an *****, ask to be escalated to their technical group.

ok that work fine when I us tmobile but when I go to att it will not let me do that. every time I go it keep on trying to connect but it say a third party has dissconet it. and I thougt if you did that you would have to pay the extra fee to tether it. that is a lot of extra $ just to o online a little bit. I thougt that was the hole reson just to us pdanet so I will not be charged th extra amount to tether it.

Most folks i've talked to are still able to tether at this time without the tether plan. May be an oversight on ATT's part, who knows...

If you load the UNBRANDED WM6 rom, you can tether whenever as it doesn't have the restrictions of the ATT rom.

Make sure you try connecting via all the options available. I have 3 in my dropdown box and I never know which one is going to work, but one always does.

Also, your initial post seems to indicate your having internet problems in general. Can you browse the web from the phone? If not, you need to get your setting straight before ANY of these solutions will work.

Just connect with ActiveSync and start Internet Sharing on the 750. When it says "Connected", you're online. Nothing else needed to do. So, so simple.

Only caveat to that is that you must first install ActiveSync on the laptop. It includes the drivers for your PC to recognize the treo as a USB network device when internet sharing is turned on.

Um, that is sort of implicit with "connect with ActiveSync", but, yeah. My experience is that you also need to wait until ActiveSync connects to the Treo and says, at least, "Synchronizing".

Another issue is that there are possibly several options under "Network Connection" in Internet Sharing. For me, I select "AT&T", but others say they need to select "ICS". Try one way and then the other. I would avoid "Proxy".

Guys, I'm kinda paranoid when it comes to AT&T, proxies and tethering. I think they can and will disable internet sharing eventually (if you use their ROM) and are not on a tethering plan. Of course that will occur after they stick you with a big bill.

So, I switched to the unbranded Palm ROM (2.27), disabled AT&T's proxy, and set my connection to the isp access point (the so called true internet connection). I tether only occasionally so my data usage will never trigger AT&T's suspicion and I don't think they have any other way to identify tethering if you are on the unbranded ROM.

By the way, I have always been able to get internet sharing to connect successfully using the ICS network selection. And yes you must start an ActiveSync connection before starting Internet Sharing.

You can find some good information on AT&T access points and data plans, along with tips at:

I wouldn't be paranoid about thier monitoring. From what I've heard, they watch for accounts that hit the 5GB mark monthly, as that is where they set the cap for tether plans.

Also, the "proxy" setting only affects pocket IE on the Treo. It would have no impact on any other data service.

Sometimes mine connects under AT&T, sometimes under Proxy, but rarely under ICS. I just use whatever is able to connect and have never had an issue.

Technically, you don't have to wait for an Activesync session to be fully established. You can fire up Sharing before even connecting the cable, you just have to do it quickly. If the cable is not connected within a few seconds of hitting "connect", you'll get an error to check the cable connection.

As for their ROM, if anything it would give them the ability to disable the Internet Sharing application unless you are on the correct plan (though to my knowledge they have never done this.)

For those of us on the older unlimited data plans that came out before the tether plans, I'm pretty sure the contract language makes no distinctions. Data is simply data and it's unlimited. Remember, before WM6 was released last December, there was no internet sharing. On WM5 you had to set up DUN and not many folks bothered. It wasn't until WM6 started to become prevalent that they made a new "tethered" data plan.
