I don't understand why people say Opera mini is so fast. On my 750 it just sits there saying "Connecting..." for quite a while. Then when it finally says "Processing" the page loads quickly. For example, after clicking on the "Post a new thread" in this forum Opera said "Connecting" for one minute and 20 seconds and then took all of two seconds to finally say "Processing" and load the page. Pocket IE takes less than 10 seconds to do the same thing on my 750. Any ideas?

Doesn't Opera Mini contact it's own servers first, to preload the page and compress all data, before sending it back to the phone? I'm not sure..

Mini has been EXTREMELY slow today and yesterday. This 60-second plus wait on "Connecting" is most certainly not typical but I too have experienced it many times in the past 24 hours.

For those of you googling the above, it's "Esmertec jbed". Handango has it for $50.

Here are a couple alternatives: http://gadgetech.info/treo/tips/java/

The gadgetech article I posted a couple posts above reviews IBM and Residoro in a head to head comparison.

That esmertec java vm should not be $50. It's about the net and it's very good. Fast, stable and full screen.

Here's some info (and 240x240 screenshots) on Jbed and how to install it:

    Ah, thanks g-funkster.

One article I found indicated that jbed is only on sale to OEMs. It looks like the install cab you reference was put together by the guys at xda-developers, which means it was probably hacked out of another device's ROM that shipped with it, thus rendering it "free".

Strange though, if I go to handango and search, I can't get a hit on jbed or esmertec, but if I google it I get hits to download it from handango for $49.95.

Thanks for sharing the download links.
