Doesn't it seem like there should be more out on the 800 at this point? Outside of the Gates speech there has been zilch on the 800 for a long while- and it is not like the Gates speech was anything big anyway...

Is Palm getting better at this or could the new treo be further out than we like to think?

The problem is that there is nothing to switch to.(Not leaving Sprint) Tried the touch- loved it for a 5 day honeymoon and then the lack of keyboard slowed me down too much. Q9c is nice but they did not fix the extra keystroke bug that effects quick typers, and the Centro is unquestionably a downgrade. Blackberry plans are to rich for me.

    Im screwed.

Back on topic- I just recall knowing a lot more about the 600/650/700s before they hit shelfs. Everything about this device is still speculation to a point.

I think this is an overall trend. Sure, the occasional tid-bit leaks out, but there seems to be better security on these releases.

Take the Sprint Q q9c. Sure, we all heard and saw something mentioning that Sprint was suppose to get it, but there were no leaked shots or details outside of knowing it was some sort of Q9 variant.

I think after the Centro, Palm really clamped down. I know for a fact that some of that was not leaked on purpose and Palm was looking for the source. The Centro leaks nearly doomed that device--remember the tons of threads and posts saying "Palm is dead" or commenting how hideous it was? I don't think they appreciated that, lol.

Honestly, since this is the first major upgrade to the 700 series I bet Palm is going to make some type of big announcement on their own. Perhaps it was pushed all the way to April due to some sort of announcement at CTIA? My theory is the less info we have the farther the release date.

That is my concern. I am hoping February but maybe even May is feasible...

I'm sure hoping it's May 19th. Sorry folks, but that's the date I picked and I want to celebrate another win.

The Centro STILL is hideous, IMO. I'd rather have seen Palm focus on tweaking the classic Treo formfactor (similar to the 800w leaked shots) and trying new formfactors entirely (*cough* 320x480 LCD *cough*) instead of just shrinking everything down to microscopic levels so that the device is practically unusable for anyone over 30.

I'm probably the only person who didn't think the 755p was that bad of a device, at least from a formfactor, styling & size standpoint. If you MUST have a small, square, screened smartphone with a full QWERTY keyboard, it's still nigh impossible to beat the "modernized classic" 755p/750 formfactor (other than the notable absence of a fullsize SD slot & a 3.5mm stereo headphone jack).

P.S. Mal, point taken & noted. The Centro looked REALLY pitiful in those early leaked shots. I was pleasantly surprised when that high-quality Sprint shot of it in black came out a month or so before launch. But if Palm's wanting to keep things under wraps, then why did they permit Vodafone to let the cat out of the bag at CES in regards to the Wanda & Drucker?

lol, fair enough about the Centro, although I have to say that nearly everyone who sees mine asks about it and thinks it looks great.

Keep in mind a couple of things about the Centro:
    • It's not meant to replace the Treo line
    • It is generally aimed at those "under 30"

So we will still some newer versions of the Treo, although the million dollar question will be if it has Palm OS or not. I personally think we won't see an 800p. Even if reception is really amazing for the 800w, by the time they could get an 800p out the door (assuming it's not planned now) the new 900p/Nova devices will be out in < 4-5 months.

Palm's new thing will be product line diversification: low end devices like the Centro, mid-range and then "ultra tier" devices and they will also be heavily experimenting with lots of new designs, although the "Treo" will generally remain the same (front, square qwerty).

    Re: Vodafone & CES

That was an internal leak of upcoming devices, not a sanctioned release by Vodafone (speaking of, is me or was all that Vodafone stuff purged from BGR? I can't find anything on that leak on that site... ). Just like when we get Verizon or Sprint roadmaps with images...

    e.g.
