Look at the original mockup--see where the "Alt" key near the bottom right? On the 700wx, there is also the "up arrow" Shift key there on both sides. It's missing in that mockup, which I assume was just a hastily put together photoshop job by Palm.

In the new image, you can see the Alt key but smaller and now it has the second Shift key. I assume it was always planned to be there, but nice for the confirmation. They did get rid of it on the Centro (making it's absence on the 800w plausible) and makes capitalizing a bit tricky as you have to use your left thumb 100% of the time and slows down typing when needing to cap a key on the left side of the KB.

On the keynote pic? It doesn't. But that is 99% the 800w, which we already know is a CDMA phone. So its either Sprint or VZW, but most reports have claimed Sprint as the first in line

I want one too. I'd take it as is but would prefer it in black or silver.

I think it actually is silver/gunmetal gray, not white.

It also looks like two-toned with black on the back, probably that popular rubberized paint for grippyness.

I was replying to the quote below (should've quoted it in my last post)... I thought they were saying that the 800w had a Sprint logo on it somewhere.

It says Treo on it so we know it is still a Treo.

Please let it have an memory card that you can easily insert and remove, meaning, if it has a door, I don't want it to feel like it's going to break off everytime I use it.

I think this phone is going to put Palm back in business big time. Ironic that it could take the WM OS to bring Palm back.

id rather it have that sensor like that nokia phone coming out (i think) where if you turn it upside down so the screen faces down (say, on a table) it auto-silences, because half the time the ringer switch doesn't even work for me (because im on a treo 700w and it gets slowed to a crawl and nothing works, ****)

If that were their intent, the keyboard would've been recreated. Another glaring blond-spot that has RIM laughing all the way to the bank. Come on Palm, you can do better than just keep your neck above water, can't you?

Ironic that it could take the WM OS to bring Palm back.
If not for WM, after the sale of the PalmOS to ACCESS, Palm, Inc would already be wormfood.

    lifes2short,

I hope you are aware Palm licenses their keyboard design from RIM directly, also I'm unaware of many complaints about the kb on Treos, in fact many consider it their strength.

Didn't know that - I hope to hell they stay away from the 88xx kb's then! Yuck.

Yeah, they mostly do it just to keep RIM's lawyers away, since they are quite sue-happy, so although Palm doesn't exactly copy every RIM keyboard out there, the overall "design" is patented by RIM. I imagine Palm licenses the basic "plan" for the KB and then makes some modifications, adding their twist here and there which I'm quite happy with

FYI, it goes back to 2002 when both Handspring and then Palm (separate companies at the time) came to an agreement with RIM. Certainly a bit of interesting trivia, especially when people suggest that Palm should copy RIM's keyboard design, lol--it's one of those even if they don't copy them, the patent is so broad Palm has no choice but to pay RIM.

    When!!!???

I just got the Q9c because I am getting past the boredom point with my WX. The Q is decent but has a couple of fatal flaws and overall is not as efficient as the WX.

I am ready to pounce on this thing!

I'm definitely not signing a new contract with Sprint until they unass the new treo. My time for signing was in November of last year and I told the Sprint rep that there was no way I would sign a new contract without the new treo800w or 850 and since I weigh 240 at 6ft with 5% body fat; he had no problem with agreeing. He in fact told me that he would call me when the new 800 or 850 comes out sometime in Febuary. It would be nice if it did come out this month but the way they are hiding the details of the release date I think it's safe to say that it will be out at the beginning of Febuary. I will be in line for it.
