No, I've still not got it to work properly. I give up.

Yeah, no joy here either... bummer.

I followed JazJon instructions exactly and I get:

    Phone(GreenDot) and GPS(GreenDot)

but "No location found" message ???

I updated my area on the Navizon website, (20 miles south suburb of Atlanta). Plenty of towers and 3G everywhere.

    Any ideas???

This would be great if it worked ... I have also had to soft reset several times b/c Navizon has locked the phone up.

    thanks

This got me very excited (since I was jealous of my friends BB that had built-in GPS and how nicely it worked with Google Maps) but this hasn't worked at all for me. I am just outside of NYC (15 mins) with TONS of mapped cell towers, etc. and still get no location found.

Oh well, it was a good idea while it lasted.

Thanks a ton for posting this. I hadn't realized that Navizon had launched a free, lite version. I too was tired of not being able to use Google maps with 3G enabled and also prefer Live search. This is wonderful!!!

thanks for the tip and the clear instructions!

We just got 3G over Thanksgiving, so neither Google nor Navizon has any mapped data for our 3G towers yet.

I might have to invest in a GPS receiver so at least it will work for someone!

I live in L.A. and just yesterday noticed that "My Location" was working. At first I thought I must have dropped out of 3G coverage but it was still there.

I used it all day yesterday and today and it works great all over L.A. from Beverly Hills, through canyons and into SFV. They must have done something within the AT&T system because I did not do anything to the Google Maps software--nor did I try any 3rd party apps.

Interestingly, when it shows the location it will also tell you within how many meters you are--which can vary from about 900 to over 1700 meters and it shows a grey circle around the flashing blue dot to show you where you might be within the circle. At least it gets your map close and is great for traffic.

I live in LA also, and noticed the same thing... Have to give Google credit for continuing to improve/update the feature...

My location works NOW here is North Dallas on HSDPA. I am glad they decided to upgrade.

Actually, doesn't AT&T deserve the credit for this one? My Google maps software has not been updated since before this started working so I assume AT&T changed or updated something on their end that makes the UMTS towers detectable.

Yup here in the DC area where we have HSDPA and 3G in most places, Google maps just started working the other day...

I'm no expert, but the way I understood the technology was that Google keeps their own tower database to do the triangulation. Same with Navizon.

(Navizon will even pay you to hook up a GPS and help them map the towers by sending back location data.)

By that logic, it would be google maps users with GPS devices in their phones that would deserve the credit for updating the database.

I stand corrected. That does make sense. I just assumed that because I didn't do anything on my end it must not have been related to Google but I guess they updated their database.
