Had this problem too and never found answer. So I experimented, and now what I do is quite simple and doesn't fail.

Go to Connections, then manage existing connections, change the access point name from wap.cingular to anything (I just remove the last "r"). Click next a few times and you're done.

Now your phone will not be able to connect to the data network! When you get back in town, just add the "r" back and you're up and running again.

i just call support today and they told me that the data plan covers Puerto Rico and US as well, so no worry s on this roaming charges, but suncom do charges in data plans roaming, and cost a pain.

Do a dummy profile, with the wrong apn and make it the default one.

If anyting is trying to connect the connection fails.

When you come back to home just defaults the right data profile and (if you want) delete the dummy one.

Would making this change disable MMS as well? I don't have a data plan but I do have a text messaging plan with ATT which includes text (SMS) and picturemail (MMS). Sometimes my kid plays with the phone and somehow manages to accidentally kick off the internet.

There's an app out there called NoData that lets you turn data on and off easily. I have it on mine and so far it's worked very well.

    Absolutely not.

MMS configuration is independent from the web one.
