Download and installed each of the WM6 verisions - both of the leaked ROMs and then the official Vodafone and the Aussy 3. All were definite improvements but each had some small issues EXCEPT the last - the Aussy 3. It is quicker and very stable. Worth the effort to install.

Interesting, was there any additional software or themes on the 3 rom?

Relative to the backlight issue - it must have. I don't have any issues with it

bigben, what were the small issues you reference with the ATT version? Is the Aussie version still available anywhere?

Isn't this carrier specific? What happens if I load the version for Australia 3 on a device subscribed to ATT in the USA?

it would still work but need to load it through boot loader method and if you prefer the ATT customisations, need to change the CapPackage to the ATT version..

Can you please explain how you would change the CapPackage to the ATT version?

I installed the Aussie 3 on my At&t 750. All i needed to do was reconfigure the internet settings, not sure if that is due to the hard reset or the new rom itself. Everything seems to be fine, been using this rom for 2 weeks now.

Instead of deleting the CapPackage, just replace it with the ATT CapPackage..

Before boot loading the 3AU onto your ATT phone, you might want to extract the ATT CapPackage first and save it so you can replace the 3AU once you have installed WM6 3AU version.

I may just have to road test this one too. Less garbage compared to the leaked ATT rom. Looks promising.

I tried the Aussie WM6 install on my ATT 750 but could not get data service working at all. I set everything the way it was previously (wap.cingular) on the ATT-WM6 but nothing....so for now I am back on the unstable ATTWM6 as it doesnt freeze all the time....

    Aussie readers,
have any of you loaded the 3 rom to your Telstra device. I believe 3 use the Telstra network, and theoretically the 3 rom should work with Telstra.

Also if the wm6 rom gives me more bugs than its worth, is there a way I can save my existing rom, and revert back to it if I have to?

    Many thanks
    Gonz.

Nope - the problem exists in all releases so far. The last hope for a newer OS build will be the ATT release, however it's unlikely to be different.

I believe you'll be OK, I presently use the leaked ATT WM6 on Telstra and it works fine - way better than WM5. Whilst I have not tried the Vodafone / Three Aussie WM6, I suspect they are fine (if ATT works, why not these?). But someone has, and it seems fine. Check out http://blog.wharton.com.au/2007/09/t...g-windows.html where he said:

"Last night I downloaded the 3 Mobile Windows Mobile 6 upgrade from Palm and successfully used it to upgrade my Telstra branded Treo 750. The only thing I've noticed missing is all the annoying Telstra branding, however the benefits of now having a super fast Windows Mobile device with embedded SQL Server CE 3.1 and .NET Compact Framework, not to mention enhancements such as:

Improved Calendar management with enhanced User Interface
Enhanced E-mail messaging, HTML/Smart Filtering, SharePoint access and more
    Voice command via Bluetooth
    USB cable charging
    was well worth the sacrifice."

Good luck (and please post your results).
