    This is a REALLY specific question, but hopefully one of you streaming media gurus will identify right away if I'm missing something basic. I'm using Resco Radio and WMP on my 700wx.

    I travel a lot. When I do I would love to have one of two Chicago radio stations stream to my phone. However, neither shows up on the shoutcast.com index.

    The first one is WGN (www.wgn720.com) - they seem to use RealAudio to stream their live radio. Based on everything I've read about what's possible today streaming audio is not an option. So that's out, correct?

    The second station, however, is WBBM (www.wbbm780.com). This station appears to stream in Windows Streaming Media. I believe this because they have a couple links to their streaming feed. The first is http://www.wbbm780.com/# This seems to open up a feed from www.cbsplayer.streamtheworld.com which is not workable in WMP. However, by clicking around a bit I concluded that they are in fact streaming from radiomat, whose index of stations can be found at: http://www.radiomat.com/streaming/index.html

    The specific URL they show for this station is: http://cbsplayer.streamtheworld.com/?CALLSIGN=WBBMAM

    However, when I put that URL directly into my WMP on my Treo it doesn't work. Why?

    My believe is that they are streaming somehow in flash but the PPC flash set up only goes to 7 and maybe I need a more current version?

    Can one of you guys who love streaming radio stuff just confirm for me that I am out of luck?

    wgn looks out as it is in RealAudio format only.

    WBBM looks like this weird mp3d format which TCPMP can't play.

    Try this in Resco:

    http://provisioning.streamtheworld.c...BMAMDIALUP.pls
    Palm III > HS Visor > Treo 600 > Treo 650 > Treo 750 > Treo Pro > PrePlus GSM

    "95% of all software issues are due to USER ERROR."

    Thank you for giving this a run! The link does allow me to save or save-as the .pls file, which I did, but unfortunately when I try to import it into Resco as a station it says "error. the playlist is in an unsupported format," or something to that effect.

    I got so excited for second! Anything else I might try?

    Open the .pls file with TCPMP. Works. It's just a 32kbps mp3 stream.

    EDIT:

    I guess i wasn't clear. I could swear that it played for a few secs, then i posted. But after coming back to this discussion and trying it again, no dice.
    TCPMP i'm still using is the .66 version..

    I've tried that and gotten an unknown file format error. what version of TCPMP are you using?

    I cannot get this to work with TCPMP either (windows version). I can get it to play in Itunes on my computer (not on WMP).

    When I save the file it saves very nicely as: "WBBMAMDIALUP.pls" However, when I try to "open" that same file in TCPMP it says:

    "Error: Could not open URL" - However, across the top it says "WBBMAMDIALUPCMP3"

    Did you actually get this to work through your TCPMP?

    When I open it in Resco Radio it says "Cannot open skin file." and then "Cannot load playlist! It has unsupported format."

    When i go to www.thestreamcenter.com/pda and run a search for WBBM and select the .pls file it first asks me if I want to replace the file (I say yes), and then TCPMP opens and says:

    "Player: http://64.235.213.161.80/WBBMAMDIALUPCMP3 Unknown File Format!"

    Any other ideas? I appreciate the help...

    My TCPMP version is 0.72RC1. I'm interested in what different settings he's using. I only have the adobe flash player added (and resco) as my only two non-OEM installs. Nothing else.

    I have found most of my local stations through http://www.thestreamcenter.com/pda/
    & stream them successfully using Kinoma (sorry....I don't do WM ).

    I respect that. lol.

    Would you mind doing me a big favor relative to the WM / Palm esoteria....?

    Do a search for WBBM in the http://www.thestreamcenter.com/pda library, select the AM station (second one) and see if you can stream that feed thru Kinoma?

    It would be nice to know if I'm missing something....

    ok, for what ever reason GSplayer can play this just fine along with similar stations that provide this option. Thankfully it's free.

    I'm sure it's in The Stream Center as well, but it's in the Kinoma Media Guide at Radio Stations > U.S. Radio > Illinois > WBBM (WBBM Newsradio 780). Works great!

    File Not Found in TCPMP usually means there's no internet connect. Try establishing a connection first.

    So long as it's in MP3 or M4A format (with a plugin), GSPlayer will play it. And very well! Highly recommended for MP3 streaming.

    TCPMP needs to be told what format it is if the URL doesn't end with an extension. Solution? Fool it. Append a fake parameter with the appropriate extension. I typically append "?filetype=.mp3" if it's an MP3 stream.

    Original WBBMAMDIALUP.pls file:
    Code:
    [playlist]
    File1=http://64.235.213.161:80/WBBMAMDIALUPCMP3
    File2=http://64.235.213.161:3690/WBBMAMDIALUPCMP3
    File2=http://64.235.213.161:443/WBBMAMDIALUPCMP3
    Title1=WBBMAMDIALUP
    Title2=WBBMAMDIALUP-Bak
    Length1=-1
    NumberOfEntries=3
    Version=2
    Modified PLS file:
    Code:
    [playlist]
    File1=http://64.235.213.161:80/WBBMAMDIALUPCMP3?filetype=.mp3
    File2=http://64.235.213.161:3690/WBBMAMDIALUPCMP3?filetype=.mp3
    File2=http://64.235.213.161:443/WBBMAMDIALUPCMP3?filetype=.mp3
    Title1=WBBMAMDIALUP
    Title2=WBBMAMDIALUP-Bak
    Length1=-1
    NumberOfEntries=3
    Version=2
    Just tried and it worked on TCPMP for me after the mod.

    Good tip g-funk...

    My biggest frustration with WM has been there is no one single media player that can handle the various streaming media types easily. Pocket Player comes the closest but it's very slow. TCPMP is great because it can also do video but can't do WMA which many radio stations stream in...

    OK, so of the three players I've seen mentioned, which one is the best? Kinoma Player, GSPlayer, or TCPMP? I currently use Windows Media Player. I tried to download GSPlayer last night and I'm not sure if I did something wrong or not, but I was able to get WFAN to play for a few minutes then I did something and when I reopened the player and pressed play, it wouldn't play. I need a player that can play WFAN through The Stream Center and GSPlayer seemed to be it. I've only installed one program before this and that was the Mobipocket E-Book Reader. That one works just fine. Thanks if anyone can help me get GSPlayer working.

    BTW, Kinoma Player 4 EX is a Palm OS app, so it's worth noting that it requires StyleTap to run on a 700w/wx.

    I want to give a shout out and thank you to everyone on this thread who helped resolve this. I finally got to this tonight, downloaded GSPlayer and WBBM is streaming just fine. My business trips just got a lot better for me.

    Thank you!

    Now if I could find a hack for Real Audio and get WGN...

    Got it figured out!!

    I'm using TCPMP on my 750 with WM6. Apparently the WMA and WMV codecs on WM5 are different from WM6 (they have different names at a minimum). I got these codecs over at XDA (thread here).

    So if you want to stream wma/wmv on WM6 using TCPMP:

    1. Download the codecs extract from the zip files and install to your Windows directory on your Treo.

    2. Soft Reset

    3. Launch TCPMP. Go to Options -> Select Page -> File Associations and check MMS protocol and Windows Media Video files (if you want to have TCPMP be the default player for these

    4. Access a WMA/WMV stream in PIE and it should open directly in TCPMP

    woot!
