It is if you want to turn your 700 into a paperweight. GSM vs CDMA

You need to have a ROM specifically designed for the 700. It's not the same procedure you see on upgrading the OS on desktop computers.
    Treo 600 > Treo 650 > Treo 700p > Treo 700wx -> Mogul -> Touch Pro
You may like to flash, but your phone shouldn't. LED Killer

    1) Always backup first
    2) Download the zip from the rapidshare link below
    3) Extract the 15 files and place them in a temp folder on your device
    4) Use Resco Explorer to copy/move them to \Windows (Confirm the "are you sure" prompts)
    5) Soft reset.

Seems to be working fine for me so far. It does seem a little faster.

I have also given Mal a cab that installs these same files for him to test.

Alright so I did this however, two of the files would not move as it said they were in use. The files were two files called something like messege plugins.dll.

BTW: Kinda ot, but is it possible to get the Office and notes off 750's WM6 to work on a 700w/wx?

Sorry to hear that. When I installed it, I had the full mobile office 2007 on my 6800. I guess it doesn't like something about the 750.

If anyone else tries this, make sure you backup your phone first, so you can easily go back if needed.

    ok, I have a problem.

I had a 700w running WM5 with the messaging app beta 4 installed. I downloaded the files posted by codyppc here: https://home.comcast.net/~codyppc/Pa...ng_pre_2.3.zip
Then, using Resco, I copied them all over to my /windows directory overwritting the originals and did a soft reset. My phone now hangs at the today screen. It doesn' fully load!

I went to the settings and disabled everything on the screen then soft reset, same thing. Next I went back into the today settings and reactivated phonealarm then did another soft reset, same thing. The today screen starts to load from the top down but doesn't fully load and the phone won't turn on. Now my phone won't sync with the PC. Any ideas how to I fix this?

Some people learn the hard way that you should always do a full backup before attempting to overwrite rom files. If you did a backup you can simply hard reset and restore.

I've done this procedure on my 700w and it works. I'm not sure which files are in Cody's download.

Install Cody's version and you should be fine as long as you follow the directions exactly.

Is this method still the best nowadays if I already have beta 4 installed?

I installed the app and it works perfectly. I see in the instructions that it states we cant use it as the default sms but this app has been floating around for awhile now. Did any one figure out how to make it default the default sms app by now?

Thank you Malatesta, hannip, and cody.. The update works perfectly. It IS faster than the first version. For all those who couldn't make it work: Please read the instructions carefully and FOLLOW them... Imho the only thing that can go wrong with the installation has to do with HUMAN ERROR... I have installed and tested the app and the update on two different phones, a Treo 700wx (WM5) and an HTC Mogul PPC-6800 (WM6). It worked fine on both.

These steps are very important when "upgrading" from the previous version, and make sure u get them right.

I'm getting a "Cannot overwrite 'TMAILUTL.DLL'. The process cannot access the file because another process has locked a portion of the file.

I also get a similar second error about the TPCUTIL.DLL file.

I'm in flight mode (phone off), and I've unchecked ALL checkboxes in the Today Settings, and I'm doing this immediately after a soft reset.

    What am I doing wrong?

Anyone have a download link / mirror to the latest version available? The Rapidsh*t link doesn't work. Wish ppl. would stop using RapidShare and use something else.
