    Hi,

I was curious if anyone knew if 4smartphone was using Exchange 2003 or 2007. I am debating on if I should upgrade to Outlook 2007.

    Thanks,
    Rich

They are using 2003. Most companies are, with some like mail2web stating that they are rolling out 2007 this summer/fall once testing is complete.

Outlook 2007 is an excellent mail software without the exchange capabilities. It offers a lot more than 2003 and is much cleaner. So if you have the means, get it now, as the exchange companies are possibly going to upgrade later this year.

I was using my laptop & tried Vista with Outlook 2007. It was a real slow situation for me.

I downgraded to XP with Outlook 2003 & it is speedy.

Is XP + Outlook 2007 as speedy, or since its a new version, is it a bit more bloated that Outlook 2003?

Does your laptop have at least 2GB of RAM?

I upgraded to Outlook 2007. I liked the way it looked. I like the side bar and other enhancements. Calendar view is also nicer. IMHO.

I am a 4smartphone user. I am not sure what server they use however, members get a free copy of Outlook 2007

It runs fine on both my desktop 1gb ram and laptop 2gb ram. I've had a few outlook lockups that I don't remember having with 2003, but I never loose any data, and it restarts right away. Most of my slow downs with Outlook 2003 or 2007 were ALWAYS due to network connectivity and speed.

    Negative; it's a copy of OL 2003.

www.1and1.com is shipping outlook 2007... don't know if exchange 2003 or 2007 though.... not asked... I'm looking but waiting on a wm6 device before I make the jump... plus, my imap accounts are working well for me right now... no need for push at this time.

Actually- i just checked, it is Outlook 2007. They did give out outlook 2003, but have upgraded to 2007.
Now i'm pretty sure that they still use exchange 2003, but i would imagine they would both upgrade to 2007 sometime in the next 6-8 months and announce it on their front page when they do.
i just like 2007 for its built in instant search feature- it doesn't seem to run any slower than outlook 2003...

Kenundrum, where are you getting your information from? Link? Email? Other? I was provided with OL 2003, (May 2006), and 4smartphone's service plan page still states that they are providing OL 2003:

Personally, I prefer OL 2003 over 2007. OL 2003 seems to be faster IMO. I actually prefer the 2003 Office Suite over Office 2007.

Here's a screenshot of my 4smartphone member profile page- thankfully i was able to scroll to a section that didn't have personally identifiable stuff as well as didn't show the license key...

4Smartphone probably hasn't updated their marketing stuff...

i'm still getting used to the whole office 2007... but everything i read says the interface is much better once you get used to it... but man does it suck getting used to it... thankfully outlook doesn't use the crazy new interface, it just has more features like rss built in and indexing of the inbox

OK, makes sense. Mine shows the same as yours. I guess 4smartphone ain't so smart after all! They need to change their side by side comparison of their service plans. Thanks K!

4smartphone support has replied to my email stating that they are upgrading the Exchange 2007 in mid-Q3 so it shouldn't be long now...
