I've searched all over, but in case I missed, has there been a solution to the issue where the red button first takes you to the home screen and then shuts off the lcd?

Doesn't bother me too much but kinda makes Spb Shell unuseable.

    I haven't found one.
    I did a workaround, though.
    1) Option-RedButton will lock the screen and subsequently shut off the screen without going to the home screen. But that takes 2 hand, unfortunately.
    2) I use SP Pocket Plus which creates additional button commands you can use. I created a "7th button" which is just press-and-click the side button (not press and hold.) I use a registry tweak to create it and set it to [Suspend]. So I just tap the side button and it does the same thing as red button to suspend.
    (7th button hack is here: http://discussion.treocentral.com/sh...d.php?t=139355 )

The way the red button works is by design, though I hate it too.

+1, I hate it too, holding out hope that the WM6 upgrade will revert it to the standard treo behavior..

Word is that it initially wasn't this way. Press the red button was simply "suspend" so when you un-suspend you "wake to state."
But Vodafone apparently wanted it to return to the today screen first so Palm made the change and it has carried over to all 750s.

Oh look I managed to find that post:

Correct, the 700w and wx never behaved this way. Whether it was vodafone or a Palm brain-fart is not certain. The idea was that "the end key automatically brings up the home screen" like most other pohones do (razr's, smartphone OS, nokias, etc). I hate it myself, and it makes that iphone slide-unlock app worthless.
