    After 17 months with the Treo, this is my first problem.

    Last week, my phone would no longer ring. It would vibrate but would not ring. I performed the following:

    1. I verified that the ringer control on the top of the phone was in the ringer position. I moved it several times to make sure it was making good connection.

    2. From 'Sounds and Notification', I played all sounds.

    3. I used Windows Media player was able to play music.

    4. I did a soft reset (several times).

    5. I performed a Sprite restore.

    None of these corrected the problem.

    I ended up going to Verizon for service. The service tech went through the same steps I went through. He then said that he had to try a 'hard reset' and I would lose everything I put on the Treo. (Fortunately, I had already completed a Sprite Backup to my memory card so I did not lose anything).

    After the hard reset, the phone ring function worked fine. After the Sprite restore, the phone function continued to work fine.

    Does anyone have other suggestions on how to fix this problem.

    Well, could be a registry error that can be edited. Don't know why the ring volume would be lowered, but it could be a possibility.

    The ring volume was at its highest level. I have not added, updated or removed any software in a long time, probably close to a year.

    So you say it works fine, after the hard rest and restore, right?

    This is similar to my experience with Reminders. After a hard reset and restore, it's all good.

    I tried everything else, and I finally just had to conclude, "it's a Windows thing" and move on...

    I had not used a headset or a patch cord in the jack for about 2 weeks prior. Earlier in the day, the phone was ringing as usual. All of a sudden, it just stopped ringing.

    I have had no issues since the hard reset and the Sprite Restore.

    I want to thank all for your ideas.

    I am having the same issue

    however about 2 -3 days after a hard reset the problem happens again.

    Do you think this is enough of a problem for palm to replace my phone?

    while a hard reset does fix it, I can't keep reseting and restoring my phone every other day.

    I have come across this problem only when I have installed PhoneAlarm and the trial expires. It seems to trash the ringer profile in the process.

    I had the exact same issue. I did a hard reset because my 700w was running slower that it normally did. I was in the process of getting everything reinstalled and the ringer was working fine. I did a backup with Sprite and then added a mp3 ringtone I was using before to the Application Data\Ringers and then went into customize my sounds. I chose my custom ringer and then all of my ringers quit working. I did a restore with Sprite and it was working again and then I went in and selected my custom ring tone and bam. No more ringers. So I am in the process of doing my 3rd restore and I wont be using those ringers any more. I used them for over 6 months before and they were the same exact ones!

    Similar issue with my 700p. Both times when a hard sync was not available to me for a few days. In my case, the phone didn't ring but virtually all other sounds, p-tunes, kinoma, alerts worked fine. Since I figured I was going to end up doing a hard reset or getting the phone replaced, I decided to see what would happen if I deleted the phone preferences file. That actually worked for me both times it has happened. You have to go through the process of resetting your custom alerts but no other action was reuired. Again this was a palm 700p, not the windows 700.

    I have the 700w and this happened before and I had to do a hard reset to get it to work again. I just got done reinstalling and configuring it how I like and now it happened again.

    This is getting annoying as I haven't used a headset since the hard reset or installed many programs (Google Maps, Socket wifi driver and Wifi Companion, ZSI Silencer, and WisBar lite).

    Has anybody been able to figure this one out or if Verizon will replace it? If I end up going in to talk to them I'll report back.

    Found it. Here you go. This should fix it. I remember now that I had the issue after installing the threaded sms.

    It says its for the 750 but it works on the 700w as well.

    Here is what it contains. Use Resco Explorer Reg Editor to see yours. It's the script line you are interested in. Change the ringer something you have.

    Code:
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Sounds\RingTone0]
    "Script"="apw3r"
    "Sound"="\\Windows\\Cingular.mid"
    "SavedSound"="\\Windows\\Cingular.mid"
    "Category"="Ring"

    I am having similar problems with ringer in addition to not being able to activate the Vibrate option in both mute and non-mute modes.

    I used the Ringtone0.reg and this restored the ringtone sound (only the standard treo.mid). When I try to change the ringtone, I'm back to not hearing anything.

    Also, the ringtone0.reg did nothing to fix the lack of Vibration....any ideas??

    For the record...I have an ATT 750 with WM6 (Aussie3 flavor)

    Thanks

    Thanks for the fix, it didn't seem to work though. I took it into Verizon, they worked on it for 45 minutes and couldn't get it fixed. He then said he could replace it and I said ok and then he came back and told me that it worked now and that I had the switch set to silent. Which I did not (he also said I had the palm version but mine is clearly Windows Mobile). But it did work so I am not sure what happened.

    Thanks anyways though!
