    According to this story on Engadget, WM6 supports 320 x 320 screen resolution.

    Now the big question - is the physical LCD screen hardware in the Treo 750 the same as the screen in the Treo 680 and therefore physically capable of running 320 x 320 ? Or is it different hardware and only capable of 240 x 240 as used in WM5 ?

    How good would it be if we can upgrade our Treo 750 to WM6 and 320 x 320 resolution with just a ROM update ?

    Probably wishful thinking I know.........

    Palm will no doubt want us to buy a "Treo 780" or "Treo 800" or "Treo 850" or whatever the next device is called....... maybe if it has WiFi too (and GPS) then buying another new device won't be so bad.

    Wishful thinking and a good 500-600 bucks will get ya a new 320 x 320 Treo.

    Looks like Palm has stated they will be updating the WM5 devices this year. SURPRISE! If this happens, it might be nice... Or maybe updating means NEW devices.

    "While it is nice that Palm will be updating the Treo line with Windows Mobile 6"

    I'd like an answer to that question as well. WM6 is capable of up to 640x480 as well as the lower resolutions, of course. If we can upgrade to WM6 somehow, will the Treo 750 be able to handle 320x320 or 640x480??? We waited SOOOO LONG for the 750 and it's great except for the WM5 240x240 limitation. Arghhh...

    I'm pretty sure that the resolution of the 750's screen is fixed by the hardware. A future generation of device could have a higher res screen.

    The windows treos screens are 240x240- hardware limitiation. Different screen than the 650,680,700ps.

    Im sure hardware does have something to do with it, but it has always been a WM software limitation or we would have seen higher res. for all Treo's and other 240x240 devices.

    For Palm to update currently available Treos they would have to:
    1) Pay Microsoft for an upgrade license per every device that had been manufactured thus far.
    2) Put the Treos through carrier testing again before updating them.
    3) Re-read 1) a few more times.

    I hate to tell you guys this but 320x320 still means a square screen. This may mean that some of you can't buy devices with this resolution...you know...based on principle and all.

    I have no problem with square screens. I love the Treos, 6915s, and one or two others. However, there has been a fairy or two posting about rectangles being better than squares...forgetting that it is the resolution that matters.

    Let's see:

    Square= 240x240
    Rectangle= 320x240

    Better means what, exactly? I say "better" because there is more real restate. If you think better= clearer, then you're right, its not the case. But I like my real estate

    Correct, it is just not going to happen on our existing screens.

    I'm personally really happy about Crossbow supporting 320x320. I mean I might even pay for a new Treo just to get 320x320 even if it was the ONLY change from the 750 (because I am a sucker.) Although I would hope there would be at least some other upgrades.

    There's some debate about 320x320 on the HoFo PocketPC forum. Some people think square is an abomination totally. I, however, see it as a good thing.
    Compared to 320x240 rectangular screens like on the TyTn/8525, I see 320x320 as a good thing. It's sort of the best of both worlds getting both portrait and landscape mode at the same time on 320x240 device.

    It would mean the end of some apps getting cut off at 240 (height) like Real Player. How there may still be incompatibilities going from rectangular apps to square apps (especially games) but I think the compatibility problems will be far fewer going to a larger (wider) screen in this case than the way it currently is (going to a shorter/smaller 240x240 screen.)

    I see it but I jsut have a hard time believing it. Crossbow upgrade to the Treo 750? Maybe Palm sees this as the most cost efficient way to extend the product life of the 750 (which is very young in it's product cycle) rather than spend the money on developing a whole new product model.
    If it's true, bonus for us. But I'll believe it when I see it.

    The Treo form factor is a major seller for me. I don't much care for slide out keyboards. So the Treo keyboard is perfect in my opinion. A 480x320 rectangle shaped screen would eliminate the keyboard or stretch the Treo longer and make it too big. I am completely satisfied with the current form factor...I think it's perfect. The square screen is just fine. The 240x240 res on WinMo5 is not cool, however. This is the major factor for me not switching from PalmOS (or AccessOS now I guess). 320x320, plus faster start up in WinMo6, plus HSDPA will seriously make me consider a Treo750.

    It'd be interesting to see if someone could port the ROM of WM6 to a Treo 680 and see if the new 680 could run WM6 at 320X320

    So CAN the Treo 750 support 320x320 if upgraded to WM6 or not??? Simple question...Hmm...
