When I go to http://www.dslreports.com/mspeed?jisok=1 in non EV springfield missouri I get 30 to 60 kb per second. Is that as good as it gets without EV?

no, when i'm not in a evdo area I still get into the 100kbps. just cause the signal strength is full bars doesn't me the tower your connected is up to par. try different parts of the city.

my evdo speed at work is 50-250kbps, but 20 miles away I get 700kbps. different towers with full signal bars.

Thanks for the information. I wish Sprint would get the EV going here. They have it up in smaller towns close by.

Does the time of day affect Internet speed?

The reason I even started this thread was because sometimes PIE just flat crawls here so I did the dsl and I got a depressing, disgusting 13kbit/sec during rush hour but right now at 4 am while starting my day I get 70kbit/sec.

I think mobile dsl reports is not always accurate.. I'm not really confortable in it being "the standard" for these measurements..
I don't think it deserves at all.

Try tethering your phone via the usb cable and going to http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest

You should see waaaay more accurate results.

Speed is only dependant on the number of users on the tower. It may also be dependant on the amount of traffic sprint is pushing in the area. Since peak EVDO speeds are higher than T1 it would be possible to have a tower all to yourself and still hit a bottleneck on the early backbone routes before you get to their optical backbone. It really all depends on how they are routing traffic.

Clearly, they are not making any perfromance guarantees.
