    after purchasing other cables that do this I was reading around and a user on PPCgeeks.com found how to make the standard sync cable charge too. here is what he said. this worked for me the poster was elephant 007.
    basically you solder the pins like this

    @11___@1111
    | ______|_____ USB WIRES (Solder wire to the @ sign)
    |
    |____________CHARGER POSTS (Solder other end of wire to @ sign)
