So I really want manual network selection. I have stacks of SIM cards of all types, so I got a Cingular rep to activate a 32K SIM on my account. Works well with the Treo 750, although I haven't been able to see if 3G will work on it. It did nothing for what I thought it would do. Manual network selection. On my Treo 650, instead of showing two Cingular networks (the 2nd of which being T-Mobile), it now says Cingular Extend for the T-Mobile, so at least the alpha tag is a bit more "telling". I tried the 32K SIM in my 8525 as well as a non-PDA phone (Samsung c417), and the manual network selection is still disabled on all devices. Arghhh...

I thought the 32K SIM's did NOT disable Cingular's network selection!?!?!? The one I have is a GEMPLUS, by the way. I don't know if that makes any difference. I have definitely heard of Cingular customers not wanting to upgrade to a 64K or 3G SIM because of the manual network selection, so what gives here? This sucks...
