I'd like to know if software for the Treo 750 will also work on the 8525 since they're both running WM5? Also, I'd appreciate any suggestions for websites where applications and trials can be downloaded.

Advice as to must-have's would also be appreciated!!!

    Thanks...

yes, even though the screen size is different you should have little problems with using the same apps.

pocketgear.com, handango, and the treocentral store all have software for ppc's. what you may also want to do is check out pc magazine .com. thay give a list of all the software winners for the years. thay also give a good review with links to download.

almost all ppc software comes with trial versions.

Some software for 8525 will not display correctly on the 750. Most software for the 8525's rectangular screen will carry the moniker 'QVGA'. The 750 is a VGA, or square screen. Many games formatted for QVGA will not display fully on the Treo.

That's not correct. QVGA is 320x240. VGA is 640x240. The Treo is 240x240. Most developers refer to the Treo size screen as a "square" format not VGA.

I apologize for getting the terminology incorrect.

My main point was to warn Crunchdude that indeed there might be issues with software between the two devices.

    Thanks for your clarification, bcaslis.

My point wasn't that the terminology was wrong. It was that if you want to check for compatibility, you need to look for software that says it supports WM5 "square" format screens for the Treo.

If software vendor builds application for Treo 750 square screen, then he definitly has version for 8525 normal 320x240 screen. So if you plan to migrate from 750 to 8525, there should be no problem in finding 320x240versions of your programs. Here is one of websites with collection of 8525 compatible software.
