IIRC this won't work on this device. I can't remember why, I think it doesn't support WM5.

I asked this same question... just don't remember where.

I'm using AIM 2.0 on my 700wx, bot sure if it's the same as the UK version. I just used the setup using TCP/IP and it works fine.

Just click on news or stocks to get the sign in screen. Once logged in you can get to your buddy list and other features.
Vijay555 is looking at possibly hacking the app to show the menu that's hidden behind the command bar.

I don't have the link to the thread, but if you search on xda-developers, there's a thread in which someone posted a version of AIM that works fully on WM5 devices. I think the thread was called something like "AIM on the wizard".

Hey thanks Trevante! I didn't know there was already a hacked version for WM5. I found the thread and installed it. Works beautifully! It's the UK version hacked to show the hidden menu and the task bar is moved to the bottom to make this work in the app. Now you can set an away message, and more importantly you can set the preference so that the center dkey button sends an IM so you don't have to use your stylus!

As with the UK version you have to make an EV connection prior to attempting to sign in, but otherwise it is pretty sweet.

To get it go register at http://forum.xda-developers.com
sign in and go to post

Download aim_102.zip to your pc unzip and copy the cab to your device and install.

Here is what the hack vs unhacked version looks like.

Edit: Here is a rapidshare link for those that don't want to register at xda.

    Thanks, hannip!

Does anyone else know why it disconnects me from AIM on my desktop when I sign in? Last time I checked, AIM allowed simultaneous connections without kicking you out of the other location unless you confirmed it.

The mobile version apparently doesn't know it's suppose to support simultaneous connections. It was written before that feature was available.

I say we get emailing the AIM team for a newer, US-based version of AIM for mobile phones.

    Or write our own version.

I had no success attempting to install this to my Sprint Treo 700wx. I downloaded the AIMhpc.ARM.cab file to my Treo and then attempted to install it onto the storage card. I received the following error:
"The file 'AIM' cannot be opened. Either it is not signed with a trusted certificate, or one of its components cannot be found. You might need to reinstall or restore this file"
I also tried again after a soft reset and got the same results...

Anyone have any ideas or help? Thanks!

hmm, that error usually occurs when you try to run an exe that wasn't installed from a cab. Odd. Where did you get the cab? Use the one I uploaded to rapidshare. I just installed it fine on my storage card. You aren't unzipping the cab right? You are running the cab from File Explorer and installing that way right?

I just tried again with the cab from RapidShare. I basically downloaded the aim_102.zip file from RapidShare onto my Treo 700wx. I then extracted the CAB file from it using Resco Explorer. Last time I'd tried to install the CAB file using Resco Explorer, but this time I tried it from File Explorer (although I don't think it should really make any difference). Same problem...so infuriating! Any other ideas I can try?

    Thanks.

Hannip, thank you so much for providing this program quite easily. I've been having problems with IM+ lately (probably yet another need for updated software) but this solution is so much better. You rock!
