If someone has an old or spare sprint phone couldn’t you move your number to that phone temporarily...see if sms works...if it does then we know it's a specific 700wx issue? I can barrow someone's old phone but it won't be until Thursday. When I was in the store that is a mile from my house, all the employees were receiving and sending texts to every carrier.

I was sending a text message to a friend from a 700wx to another Sprint phone (not a 700wx) and they received my message multiple times and with a long delay. The problem still exists..

Here's what I'm experiencing on my 700wx (posted on HOFO):

I called up Spint and they opened a trouble ticket.....I'm starting to think its a phone/network combo issue here.....I have a friends 6700 and my 700wx and have been doing some testing....

We can both send and receive txt messages to and from sprint
The 6700 can send to other carriers
The 700wx cannot send to the following other carriers (TMO FL, TMO ATL, VZW ATL, VZW GREENVILLE)....it can however send to CINGULAR ATL.

The 700wx can receive txt messages (sporadically) from other carriers....however I've been getting a 40% drop rate from one of my friends.

I still think its a 700wx / network upgrade issue......but thats just me.

Yea you’re right...I have a friend with the 6700 and he has no problems at all. Sooo...I made my daily call into Sprint, and they say it is the 700wx and the network compatibility, ok. So fix it, he said they are working very hard trying to resolve the problem and it will be released in an update, of course no time period for that.

I don't think Palm is necessarily blaming Sprint. I think they've been caught off guard because they don't know what Sprint is talking about. I've received three responses from Palm so far, and in none of them have they said they are aware of a 700wx-specific SMS issue.
Thank you for contacting Palm Technical Support. On our side, we seem not to note a problem with regard to sending SMS to other networks. However, to fully understand the scenario and to perform further troubleshooting, I’m going to escalate your case to our Level 2 engineers. Once they get a solution, one should contact you at the soonest possible time.
Shortly after I received this email, Level 2 sent me an email requesting a lot of specific information with the intention of escalating it up to another level. Palm's response has been much better than Sprint, in my opinion. But even though Sprint has (at least to me) made it clear it's a 700wx issue, I still believe this is a network issue. It's so frustrating!

Added: Wait, weren't people saying yesterday that Sprint was calling it a network issue? Now today its a 700wx + network issue?? Well at least they're combining their excuses.

I'm finding a few strange things with test messaging. Sprint to Sprint works fine, but I tried sending my brother a message to his T-Mobile Treo 650 and it never got there. I have also noticed over the last couple of weeks that messages that I'm supposed to get come in very delayed, or not at all. Things like market updates or sports scores etc.

I have not called Sprint yet, but I'm going to as this is a BIG problem. My phone appears to send the message, but it never gets there. Not good.

What blows my mind is that my wife has Cingular & she gets my texts instantly! Doesn't make sense. Why does it work for some & not others. I am also surprised that more people aren't reporting issues. Anyway, if anyone has a breakthrough - Let us know.

I wonder if I can get any kind of deal out of this. I just switched to Sprint and bought two Treos and now none of them can text message. Lame.

I requested free unlimited text messages and they turned me down, stating that "due to the nature of cellular services, outages will occur for all providers." Very nice that they take my inconvenience and frustration into account.

I'm on with Sprint tech support now. She tells me that they are experiencing a nation wide problem with text messaging that effects everyone differently. Some can't send messages at all and other get them three days later. I asked for a credit and I'm being connected with billing now.

As I talk with "billing" they are telling me that they have noted the problem on the file and that I should call them after the problem has been resolved so that they can give me the proper amount of credit on my bill. I have text messaging on three of my four lines.

    For you folks calling sprint...

tie in your complaint with their SMS rate hikes (which you can cancel your contract on, since it's a material change) and see what you get and let us know!

I'm not sure what I'm going to do now...switch to the "P" or switch to another carrier...I like the 750v but cingular's internet is a rip off just like verizon....**** choices...Sprint has to be doing something to resolve this quickly...

This is from the sprint users forum. This is consistent with what I am experiencing.

Tech Support called me and told me that it is a national problem sending to Verizon and T-Mobile only from a Treo 700wx. Cingular works fine as they said (I tested). They gave me a service alert number, 868191.

According to the chick that called me, someone at Sprint upgraded something and it's f'ing w/ the way messages are sent to Verizon & T-Mobile.

Time to email ecare to see about compensation. A week & a half w/ no texts sucks. I don't know anyone really that has Cingular that I want to text.

Would doing a prl update do anything about this issue?

I don't think it would, but this problem is getting real old.

The thing I have observed is that I will be texting back and forth with someone and everything is fine and then, out of the blue, they will receive a text message from me with some garbled weird characters and after that, they stop receiving my texts.

It's stop working so suddenly....this problem needs to be squashed ASAP...very frustrating!!!

Well seems like this issue is def. a problem. After talking with sprint they connected me with Palm, Palm asked me some questions and after about 20 minutes of B.S. they told me that this is a known issue and that they are working on a fix and will email me the fix once it is ready. What I don't understand is that this problem seemed to happen to everyone all of the sudden the past few days, so how can it be a software issue, something must have changed in the network, why would it be fine out of the box, and then a month later stop working???

So palm confirmed that they are going to release a software update or patch?

Well, if they did confirm a software update/patch, I am calling BS because as the spadak posted above, why would it work out of the box and then 2 weeks later it's a "firmware" problem? That's crap and it just does not add up.

Its evident that this problem has been occuring for an extended period of time. Why hasnt palm released a fix yet? This is a major turn off for me and I am on the bubble as far as sticking with Sprint and this is not helping at all. Maybe im over reacting but this seems to be quite a long time to not have a solid answer and/or a fix for this.

Maybe I shouldn't rely so heavily on text messages but sometimes its my only form of communication and I had to get an urgent message out to family and shockingly, my message was not received. Please keep posting the status of this issue.
