    1. Choose you "favorite" 5 or 10 sprint phone owners to text to.

    2. Send them a text that is 160 characters long.

    3. Have them get all of their messages backed up and stuck thus disabling their ability to receive any texts.

    4. Have them call sprint and ***** about not being able to receive texts.

    5. Repeat daily until the problem is fixed.

    6. Sit back and enjoy.

Boy, would THAT screw Sprint up for awhile. It may be the perfect way to get this problem noticed/solved!!!
I honestly don't have that problem.....and neither do the people I send txt messages to. I usually send exactly 160 characters and txt messages do not get backed up for the other people.

What about service for the Blackberry? Do you have to pay for the additional service? Do you plan on switching back to the WX when this gets fixed?

Do you have a 700wx? If you do, when did you buy it? You must have updated software

I struck out big time with Sprint last night. They wouldn't give me a Blackberry. I am not sure what I am going to do.

The question is, what carrier are you sending the text's to? Probably Cingular.

    That's a very good point^^^^

Also, here is the latest response from Sprint's team of "Crack Customer Support":

I would like to tell you that your phone Treo 700 WX is Two-Way Text Messaging capable, may be due to some technical problem you are not able to use the Text service, for that you can contact our Technical Department by dialing *2 from your phone and be assured they will resolve your concern.
    Really???? No kidding

Try again. I literally just got mine in the mail and am on the phone with Customer Care activating right now.

Was your 700wx under or over 30 days old? And did you buy it directly from Sprint or through a store other channel? Thanks in advance.

I was outside of the 30 day window. I had it for about 50 days. I would need to check, but it is possible that my first complaint was within the 30 day window. I bought it at a Sprint store.

Just checked. My first complaint was exactly 30 days from the time I bought the phone - Oct 9th. I didn't use that in my discussion with them, but you may want to check. There have been people on this forum who have cancelled without ETF. I would definitely threaten leaving. The bottom line is if you need text messaging, you either need a new phone or to chenge service.

I figured since Sprint is blaming Palm, I would call Palm @ (408) 617-7000.

So far, after telling the tech support rep the issue, I have been on hold for 15 minutes...

She told me to hard reset my phone! HAHAHA Only in America. I asked to speak to someone who has knowledge of this issue. I am on hold again... total time of call so far 20 mins (and I'm @ work).

    22 mins...
    36 mins!...(still on hold)...

well, she came back on the phone to tell me that the problem has been documented, and to REGISTER MY PHONE with them so I can get an email when this is resolved. I told her that this is not what I spent 42 minutes on the phone to hear, and BEGGED her to transfer to someone who is working on this problem, and I did not call to tell you my problem, I called for information about a problem that is going on for a month. She obliged, and put me on hold.

    46 minutes...

A different person got on the phone with me and told me he just "got out of a meeting." He also said this was a topic at the meeting and a fix will be out "soon." He said either today, later in the week, or next week. He also said that "I cannot guarantee that this will be resolved in the patch." UNBELIEVABLE!!!

unvelievable indeed, but at least you did get some information, which at this point is all we have and is something to cling to! so thanks for doing that at least.

I don't have updated software. I know what you are talking about with the (1/2) thing.....I sent a txt to a Sprint friend (in fact a co-worker I sit next to) this past weekend that was 160 characters. He of course got (1/2) a few times and got part (2/2) a few times but less times than than (1/2). During that time he also got txt messages from friends and such......I don't think it happens every time is what I'm trying to say, have you tested it over and over and over again?

I have a feeling this is going to continue and continue until someone decides to stand up and do something at Sprint and Palm.

I posted the phone number, whenever any of you have free time please call Palm and harass them!

Tomorrow marks the month point of this problem. That's fun.

I posted a response I got from Palm (on 10/13) a while back in this thread with a phone number they provided suggesting that everyone with a problem call to report it. It's different than the one you provided, so I'll post it again.

We are collating all the data that we need in order for us to work on it immediately. If you can also request the other Treo 700w owners who are experiencing this, they may also email and or call us so we have enough evidence and data that it is an emerging issue. You may also request them to call our technical support at: 813-313-4913
What I find the most troubling is that this is a "known issue" yet CS reps at Sprint are unaware of it and Palm does not post any information about it on their FAQ/Troubleshooting page. Are they hoping nobody will notice?

I added those 2 Palm numbers to the ppcgeeks sticky on this issue for future reference/easy finding:

I posted at PCSIntel yesterday (after sending Chris the info 10 days ago), he finally responded in his usual "manner" lol, but it sounds like he might finally do a story on it. Maybe then EngadgetMobile and others will finally pick it up.

To all of those who have had to deal with this issue....Happy one month anniversary. This is crazy that something like this is actually still going on. I wish there was a good alternative to Sprint...and someone who had a comparable device right now.
