    1. someone denied that there was an issue thursday
    2. saturday i was told that there have been some complaints but when i asked if i would be issued an update, she said no, i'd just have to keep testing it.
    3. on monday, i finally got a smarter/nicer person by going to "wireless web tech support" and she said that the issue had been logged since oct 4h, they were very sorry, they are trying to fix it, they would be very helpful and accomodating if i decided to return the phone. They *hope* i won't switch service/carriers as i have been a *loyal* customer for over 7 years. (i called verizon and they will make it VERY worth my while to switch over to them as well as sprint will waive my early termination fee due to this issue.) Plus, I was able to get a "ticketed" complaint on my account.

After reading the forum, someone suggested we complain to the FCC....which i did because while I understand that there are glitches, I feel that this constitutes an issue regarding the sales of merchandise known to be malfunctioning. Particularly since there have been NO announcements formally made by Sprint PCS on their website nor have they made any attempts to alert their sales staff/customer service. Due to the $649 cost of this phone, you would think that the sales staff at the store might be able to give a potential customer an alert that there could be issue with normal functions of the phone.

More than likely I will return the phone in the next few days and either 1. go back to using my old phone or 2. go to verizon. Highly irritating....especially because you would think that at the very least, they would make more of an effort to at least keep their customers updated and informed.

See, you are dealing with customer non-service with Sprint, they aren't going to know about the issue, its just with 1 phone out of their entire lineup. You'd have the same expereince calling Verizon, T-Mobile, Cingular, etc if they had the same issue. And why would a salesman know anything about this issue....thats just crazy to think that they would. They would only know if they actively read as much Sprint information as possible. Lets face it, the people working at the store are working for $$$$, not you.

Also, its an issue that started Oct 3rd, not something that has always been wrong with the unit and its manufacturing.

Switch to Verizon and start paying up the you know what for serivce....its not worth it, at all. There are workarounds for the "issue" as we speak. Yes, it sucks, but hey, at least there is a way to make it work while Sprint/Palm get a fix out. Just have a little patience if you can, and if you can't just use your old phone while the problem is being resolved, then come back to the 700wx.

I have successfully sent and received text messages to Cingular on my wx w/threaded SMS.
    Treo 600 > Treo 650 > Treo 700p > Treo 700wx -> Mogul -> Touch Pro

Cingular was never an issue. Just T-Mobile and Verizon.

My co-worker called and they said the same thing that it is being "looked" at...

I called up last night and was told by tech support that is was a coding issue. Basically exactly what other people on this forum have been saying. The 700wx only sends in binary and tmobile and verizon do not recognize them as a text message. They had no idea when it will be fixed but it is being worked on. Bla bla bla. One month for this type of problem is way too long. I was able to get a credit for $15 for the unlimited text messaging that I pay for.

Well, if that is true that it is a "coding" issue, then:

    1. Why doesn't it work within the Sprint network when you get to around 140 characters which triggers the (1/2) message and blocks all subsequent messages for the next 5 days

    AND

    2. Why did SMS work up until around October 4th?

This is just the same old stuff re-hashed over and and over again...and it's ALL SPRINT'S FAULT!!!

I may call and exchange my 700wx for the new Blackberry until the problem is solved.

WE ARE COMING ON NEARLY ONE MONTH OF THIS CRAP!!!!!

100% UNACCEPTABLE, YET WE CAN DO NOTHING ABOUT IT!!!!

The 700wx would be a bad memory?

How is the text messaging on the Blackberry?

I had the BB 8700 through Cingular before I got the 700wx. I loved the BB, but I think now that I've gotten used to the 700wx, I don't want to go back to the BB. The 700wx is just too much fun. Except for this whole text messaging fiasco. I'll give it 2 more weeks, then C-YA!

This whole text messaging situation would be a bad memory . As for the Blackberry, it works well for texting. It depends on the "theme" that you select, but it can be wrapped up into all your messages or kept separate. All your text messages appear as separate messages, but if you select the most recent and open it, it appears in a "threaded" fashion. Additionally, what I like is that you can set alerts differently for texts and emails. For example, you can silence the emails if you dont want to be bothered by a barrage of pointless emails, but keep an alert or vibrate for texts. It is very customizeable. The trade off, is that it is not nearly as versatile as the Treo. Considerably fewer application options, no camera, no expansion. After this issue with the texting I realized that I really don't use the camera, etc much. I really just need a device that works.

I did the same exact thing. I wanted to leave Cingular and the 700wx was a perfect excuse. I really like the 700 wx - definitely the best smart phone I've had (previous : treo 600, blackberry 7100, blackberry 8700). I agree that the 700wx is more fun and has more options and I wouldn't be considering leaving if this weren't an issue. However, after a month of this - I've decided that what I really miss is the reliabilty of the BB. The "no ETA on fix" also makes me think that it may be awhile before we see this fixed. I'm just not that patient. I use texting a lot and have been very limited since this started. If I had minimal texting needs, I probably wouldn't care much.

This is getting BEYOND comical. I called Sprint Retention Department and told them I am tired of this text messaging issue and I wanted to switch to a different PDA phone besides the 700wx until the issue is fixed.

She puts me on hold, calls Sprint Tech Support and then gets back on the line with me and tells me "there is no known SMS Text Messaging issue at this time!!!"

So, I call back and get a different Retention Rep and after explaining the situation AGAIN to the 2nd Rep, the first question she asks me is:

"Are you sure you have SMS Text Messaging on your account?"

    Un-Flippin-Believable!!!!

I am on hold again right now and she is calling tech support to "verify the issue".

This is just stupid....I have bigger things in my life to worry about....stay tuned!!!!

I am about ready to fly to Sprint's Corporate headquarters and wring someone's neck!!

What exactly did you tell them or how did you word your request to swap out your Treo WX for a Blackberry?

Since it's been over 30 days for me, they are not budging and basically saying I'm sorry.

I have a feeling that Sprint has instructed their Retentions department to act stupid because they know they have a problem.

    rjmoose,
I had established a paper trail since this started. I've sent about 6 emails and called about 5 times. Finally, I got a service ticket - that was key. They called me the following day & said that its a known issue with no known ETA for fix.

I immediately called *2 said "cancel service" and told the rep that the 700 wx has an issue with text messaging for the past month & that I have been told by the tech people that there is no ETA for a fix. I explained that this was unacceptable and I either needed a solution or I was requesting that they cancel service (I am also beyond the 30 day period). He put me on hold for 10 minutes (no exaggerration) and came back & said he was authorized to make a switch for the BlackBerry and they would be sending it out. Hope this helps

After reading in this thread of all of the ways to "let our voice be heard of our displeasure/frustration with this issue", I was sitting in my "office" AKA "the bathroom" and came up with a pretty good idea to get Sprint/Palm to notice this problem:

    1. Choose you "favorite" 5 or 10 sprint phone owners to text to.

    2. Send them a text that is 160 characters long.

    3. Have them get all of their messages backed up and stuck thus disabling their ability to receive any texts.

    4. Have them call sprint and ***** about not being able to receive texts.

    5. Repeat daily until the problem is fixed.

    6. Sit back and enjoy.

Boy, would THAT screw Sprint up for awhile. It may be the perfect way to get this problem noticed/solved!!!
