Sprint is blaming Palm, and Palm is blaming Sprint. I don't care who's fault it is, just fix it. Text messaging worked on my 700wx for a few weeks, then all of a sudden it only texted to Sprint customers. Luckily someone posted the workaround with putting the person's #@vtext.com (for verizon) and this works, but it's unacceptable that this issue is still going on. I've already gotten them to not charge me until this issue is fixed. If you call them and complain they will accomodate you. I don't need to hear who's fault it is, just fixt it!!

I am having a hard time believing this because it has been pointed out several times in this thread that SMS Text Messaging was working fine until around October 4. How could it be a Palm problem when it was working without any problems for a good month?

I agree though that it really doesn't matter who's fault it is, this has going on way too long. Why can't they fix it or at least level with all of us 700wx owners and issue a press release admitting/acknowledging that there is a problem? Why do corporation's always have to hide things? It pisses me off!!!!

If its a Palm issue, why doesn't it affect 700w owners with Verizon?
    Treo 600 > Treo 650 > Treo 700p > Treo 700wx -> Mogul -> Touch Pro

EXACTLY! Here, my friend, lies the dilemma:

If it is a PALM issue, why does the 700p send messages fine?
If it is a SPRINT issue, why does every other phone work?
WINDOWS MOBILE issue? Not quite, the 6700 has no such issues.

You can make a case for any if you really tried. I have to say a Sprint issue, because I KNOW Palm didn't update d-ck on October 2-3/06!

Presumably because Verizon didn't originally have a screwy SMS system like Sprint. My understanding is still that Sprint actually *fixed* something that broke a hack Palm had to put into the WX to work with sprint's SMS network.

Whatever the issue, I just don't see how it should take a month (a few days short, but close enough) to find and fix the problem. Every Sprint tech I spoke with said that Sprint typically finds and fixes a "known issue" within days, not weeks. They all said they were surprised that this has been going on for so long--even though there was no mention of it in their system.

Now take Palm, for example, who still says they don't know what the problem is. Why aren't Palm and Sprint working together to fix this problem?
  7. #407
When I called Sprint they told me they are aware of the issue, but have no ETA of a fix. I asked to not be charged for text messaging since it's not working, and they agreed. Everyone with this problem should call Sprint and demand that they not be charged for texting, the more people that do this, the better. Cell carriers don't like to give services away (they're not really giving us anything by allowing us to only text Sprint peeps, but you get the idea) Call them!

    Palm's latest response:
I understand your frustration over the difficulty you encountered. Please accept our sincerest apologies for the inconvenience that this has caused you. Until now they are still working on the patch and testing it before releasing the said fix. Rest assured that we are doing are [sic] best to resolve this issue.
Sounds typically vague, but at least that's confirmation that a patch is in the works.

They agreed to give me 500 texts for free. Didn't call to cancel since I can't get a better deal elsewhere, but I more or less called in about my frustration since my g/f and my family all have Verizon. The CSR for retentions was real sincere and said that all the information is on my account and if there is no fix within the month and to call back, and if i decide to cancel, I won't have any problems.

What's the number for retentions? Every time I call *2, they have the nerve to tell me this hasn't happened for weeks and only for a few days and they just want to credit me $10 and haven't done anything else.

When you call *2, just say "Cancel Service" and your call will get routed to the right people. That's who I spoke to to get them to switch me to a BlackBerry

All of the numbers are posted but the 1-800-658-7564 is no longer valid. I tried that first and it told me to dial *2. I was on the phone FOREVER and got transfered to 3 different customer service reps, then a tech rep, then a business customer service rep, and then finally retentions within a span of an hour. When I hung up, I had spent 57 minutes and 15 seconds on the phone.

1-866-818-1802 Buisness Retention is also not valid.

I find it ironic that up until I posted that I hadn't had issues, my phone was fine. Now I can receive texts from T-Mo users, but they don't receive jack from me. VERY FRUSTRATING!

So what carriers does this problem happen with?

All of them? Or only some?

One of my buddies has a pre-paid tracphone (sp?). Does anyone know what carrier that is?
  18. #418
In my experience, I get messages from every carrier but none of them get my messages (all carriers other than Sprint). The only issue I have with Sprint - Sprint is that if I send a long message close to 160 characters, they get the message followed by (1/2) and they will get the same message over and over for about 2 days before it gets pushed through the system.

Called today to complain again and they did confirm again that it is being worked on and that many tickets are open. I asked if they can stop charging me for texting in the meantime and he said that he couldn't give me free messaging since Sprint - Sprint was working.

Hi, I bought my 700w last wednesday and realized thursday that I couldn't text any verizon/tmobile customers. I stumbled across this forum (thankfully) and this is where I've gotten with Sprint:

    1. someone denied that there was an issue thursday
    2. saturday i was told that there have been some complaints but when i asked if i would be issued an update, she said no, i'd just have to keep testing it.
    3. on monday, i finally got a smarter/nicer person by going to "wireless web tech support" and she said that the issue had been logged since oct 4h, they were very sorry, they are trying to fix it, they would be very helpful and accomodating if i decided to return the phone. They *hope* i won't switch service/carriers as i have been a *loyal* customer for over 7 years. (i called verizon and they will make it VERY worth my while to switch over to them as well as sprint will waive my early termination fee due to this issue.) Plus, I was able to get a "ticketed" complaint on my account.

After reading the forum, someone suggested we complain to the FCC....which i did because while I understand that there are glitches, I feel that this constitutes an issue regarding the sales of merchandise known to be malfunctioning. Particularly since there have been NO announcements formally made by Sprint PCS on their website nor have they made any attempts to alert their sales staff/customer service. Due to the $649 cost of this phone, you would think that the sales staff at the store might be able to give a potential customer an alert that there could be issue with normal functions of the phone.

More than likely I will return the phone in the next few days and either 1. go back to using my old phone or 2. go to verizon. Highly irritating....especially because you would think that at the very least, they would make more of an effort to at least keep their customers updated and informed.

Cingular should get your messages. I'd be VERY surprised if they didn't. All other carriers require the use of the SMS e-mail gateways at the moment.
