I think it's deplorable that this problem continues without any communication from Sprint or Palm to its customers. Some $650 phone. I'm not in a position to leave Sprint, but I'm about to go to the 700p if this isn't fixed soon. Who knows how many txt messages I've missed in the last few weeks.

probably none...the problem has always been isolated to sending AFAIKAFAIKAFAIK.

Yeah, the 700wx sure likes to send. On my ppc-6700 I have gotten nearly 200 copies of the same text message from my girlfriend's 700wx in the last day and a half. Prior to this i always thought her 700wx was an exception, it did not show the issues everyone else is reporting until yesterday.

This may be coincidental but the problem started immediately after she sent a multipart SMS message. This was the first time I recall her doing that and I have just now recieved the 193 copy of part 1 of her SMS.

Sprint CS reps are such a$$ hats. I called them to see if anybody is doing anything to fix the problem and of course I get the response, "It's not our network and your phone, it's Verizon's and T-Mobile's network." I told the guy, boy I sure wish I could of saved the voice mail of a Tech guy from Sprint saying it's a common problem with the 700wx's right now and there's no word when an update is going to be available. And of course my whole family has Verizon along with my g/f so what's the joy in having a $650 phone if it can't text message. Sheiz, I just renewed my plan a week ago after buying this phone. I sure as hell wouldn't and left Sprint...not to mention, their CS skills suck balls. I'm sorry but I'm pissed.

I just received my 700wx Monday and I have no issues whatsoever sending or receiving texts from non-Sprint customers.

Hello all.. Here is what Sprint finally sent back to me after sending an email to eCARE about this matter and what they plan to do to fix / compensate me.

"I do apologize for the problem with the sms messaging on the Treo 700 wx. Sprint and Palm are actively working on a software update to correct this problem. The issue is that the sms message was not being encoded in a universal format that is recognized by all Carriers. Standard SMS messages are sent using ASCII encoding, not binary. The 700w is sending the message in binary format. Many carriers, such as Sprint, can interpret a message send in either Binary or ASCII, although ASCII is the supported format. Verizon & T-Mobile doesnít recognize a Binary message as a SMS message.
We donít have an estimated date of the software release as of yet. I do suggest that you reply to the initial response from our customer care group to get the compensation that you deserve for this issue."

so you can send to t mobile and verizon with no issues? what software or firmware version is it running?

that is the best reply i have heard yet. Dont know if its true, but it makes sense, it could be possible.

PS: I checked my balance online and it was $237.13 and normally its like $180-$190. So i checked details and they charged me for all the PCS data (internet) i used and messages sent. and I have UNLIMTED VISION ULTIMATE PACk and UNLIMITED SMS. So after going to 2 stores THEN calling *2, turns out when they activated my WX they took off my ulimited stuff , so they put it back on and i got a credit and changed my total to $186.61 - SUCCESS!

ALSO: i asked the lady about the messaging thing and she said "its not sending messages to other carriers? well we cant do anything about that.." and i told her that it was ONLY the treos and started at the beginning of the month blah blah blah and she was gonna have to switch me to a tech, but i was on the actual phone at the time and using my lunch break so i told her i would call later form a different phone. But when i do get around to calling, im gonna say "well why should i pay for unlimited messages if they dont fully work? What if you gave me $20 to fill up your car with gas, and I only put $5 worht in and kept the rest." - You guys can use that one too.... no thank you needed.

Well, FWIW, I just sent an e-mail to Rich Brome over at phonescoop.com and asked him to do a news article on his website in hopes of putting a little more pressure on Sprint/Palm to resolve this ridiculous issue. I know it most likely won't solve the problem, but hopefully it will make the general public more aware and hopefully catch Sprint & Palm's eye.

Interestingly enough, my unlimited data package was also removed when I activated by Treo 700wx. What the f is going on with these people? I've had Sprint since 99, and have generally been happy. Seems that when they switched their CCare over to India, things have gotten royally screwed up. That, or they're committing fraud. I've had unlimited data since Dec 2004, why on earthy would I want to cancel it after getting the most expensive phone on the market? Bush League.

I contacted Chris at pcsintel.com and Engadget days ago.

    Nothing.

Maybe someone else want to drop them a line to make it look like it's affecting more than just me?

next time I'm at the Sprint store, I'm going to write on the 700wx label on the shelf "will not text message out of Sprint nerwork".

OOPPPSSs i forgot, they dont even have a WX on display cause they know nobody here is going to buy one.. I have NEVER seen any smartphone on display here, they just have the regular phones cause they know everybody is all cheap here. However, they might have a picture or something on the wall...

Just got off with retention and all they was able to do was give me FREE Vision and SMS for a year. This should make my monthly service a little better but lets see what happens with resolution to issue.

As for having unlimited services and losing them after you got your 700wx, I had the same thing happen to me. When I agreed to take the upgrade from my 650 to the 700wx, I asked several times if my current plan would work with the new phone. I was advised it would and therefore, I figured I didnt have a problem.

I called up when I received the phone and I was told that I need a power vision plan and I quickly stated I was told I didnt need anything. I also had unlimited text messages and they told me that in order to put the power vision plan on my phone, it would erase any previous codes that were associated with my old plan. Apparently on their end, they enter a code that dictates the type of plan, serivce on the account, etc. and the old codes were not working with the new power vision plan. To me, that meant I was losing my $5 unlimited internet and $5 unlimited text messages. I said that is unacceptable and told them if I had known that when I made the deal, I would have not accepted it.

In the end, they put the unlmited text messages back on for $15/mo but giving me a $10 credit per month to keep me where I was as well as a $25 power vision plan with a $20 credit per month to keep that where it was. Just tell them you were told your plan was not going to change and they'll work it out with you. If someone tells you it cant be done, ask to speak to their supervisor.

This is still a pain in the a$$ with this text messaging. Have we concluded that this is a 700w, wx problem with sprint phones only? Lately I've also noticed a large quantity of dropped calls. Anyone having similar issues?

...they told me I had to switch the plan...She sold me on the one that included unlimited pictue mail!

later found out of course, that we can't even do picture mail!
