I think I should be more clear and say SkypeOut. Skype to Skype will probably always be free, at least I think, but Skype to landlines or mobile phones will only be free until the end of the year... Just read this..

    http://skype.com/products/skypeout/#learnmore

"Free calling within the US and Canada.
But remember, you can make free calls within the US and Canada to both landlines and mobile phones until the end of the year. Itís really easy; there are no contract fees, no line rentals. All you need is Skype and a phone number you want to call.
    "

A lot of you probably already know about this but I was just wondering what you guys plan on doing once it's not free. I'll be getting my 700wx in a few days so it makes me sad...

There are others out there that are looking to compete with Skype (as you know I'm sure) - GoogleTalk etc. - one interesting one is iCall:

Given that even the pay version is currently only 2.1c a minute to Europe (which is what I use it for primarily), and I spent $400 on a Treo, I can't really complain about dropping $10 on skype credit every few months.

I mean C'mon, US calls are gonna be charged at some stupid rate like 1c a minute, which is virtually free anyway. If you really need to ***** about paying 1c a minute to use the phone, then you need to talk less on the phone! Just suck it up and pay for your phone calls. Its still better than paying AT&T or Vonage $30 a month just for the privilege of having a connection.

It was actually my fault. I wasn't too clear in the original post. ^^

US calls are gonna be $0.021 a minute according to the site, which is still cheap.. http://www.barablu.com is actually cheaper.. a whole 1 cent cheaper per minute... Which means it's 1 cent a minute... which is absolutely insane... Not sure if that works over evdo though.. I'll probably give it a try when I get my phone..

Now a quick question... I know they say that calls to landlines cost money... but if the person is using VOIP through Optimum Online... will that mean that the call will be free for me?... or does it still count as a landline.?

If you or other are calling Europe at a fee... then check out this website I've been using for months. Totally free to most places in Europe and other countries.

There's others just like this one that are free. Just do a search for voip in google.
