Very frustrated...followed advice from the forum and went for the Patriot 4 GB SD card from Newegg.com at a good price. Had the $15 rebate all filled out and ready to go for when it arrived, so I did not miss the deadline or forget to send it.

The card shows up, I open the package assuming all is well, cut off the UPC as needed and send in the rebate. $15 rebate is not a lot of money, I am more interested in the card. So a day later when I have time, I put the card in...it reads 1 GB capacity (or 981 mb, standard). I try it in 3 other devices...desktop, laptop, memory card usb reader...they all say the same...1 GB. I call Newegg.com and they tell me sorry, you are out of luck on an exchange because I cut off the UPC code. Give me a break. First and last purchase from them. I even called Patriot to tell them that I possibly have a mislabeled card, they give me some program to try to reformat it...no go, still 1 GB. Any thoughts out there, or did I just pay $70 for a 1 GB card! Ugggg

I would pursue NewEgg...they need to make this right, UPC or no UPC...

At least your card does have 1GB. I bought what I thought was a SanDisk 2GB Ultra II from eBay, and ended up with an $80 256MB counterfeit. No way to prosecute the jerk as he was in Hong Kong. Live and learn.

Like I said...Newegg said sorry Charlie...pretty sad....it is a 1 GB card, and because of UPC, I am stuck...makes no sense. Is it possible that none of my devices can read a 4 GB card?

Stay away from ebay for stuff like this... I got 150x transcend 4GB for $60 after rebate--works great in 700wx

    Wasn't from Ebay...Newegg.com.

Where did you get your Transend? No problems getting the entire 4 GB to work in the 700 wx?

I'm shocked that newegg won't work with you b/c of a missing UPC. I would stay on them until they make it right. It's not like they are going to out of business because of this.

I buy lots of stuff from them without question. Your experience will now make me more cautious when doing business with them.

Let us know how this turns out.

Customer service said that I should have read the fine print on the website...pretty weak since they have sold a product that was misrepresented. I am hoping that Patriot memory will help me on Monday

    What brand was yours?

    Hey Eric,

try to find a friend or co-worker or someone that has a card reader. A lot of laptops have them built in. use the card reader to comfirm that it is truly a 1gig and then fight for ur money back. don't just take no for an answer. u paid for something that was mislabeled or defective and it doesn't make any difference if u have the package or anything else. the burden rests on newegg and the manufacturer NOT u.
I assume you bought it with a credit card.....thats ur next step... call them and tell them u were taken for a ride and sold something that wasn't what it was supposed to be. they can credit u the money and fight it for u.
Good Luck and go get them.

I have tried it in 2 desktop PC's...one laptop...and 2 digital cameras...it continiues to only read 1 GB. The sticker on it, as well as the printing right on the plastic says 4 GB.

Did everyone format theirs right in the 700wx?

I just bought $59.99 Newegg 4gb Ritek 150x with free shipping. A reviewer said it worked in his 700p and I'm assuming it'll also work in 700wx

You could buy a second one from Newegg and then return the bad card in the new packaging if you are sure the card is bad. You could also deal with the manufacturer directly.

Unfortunately, when you buy something online, you agree to certain terms, which one usually clicks through without reading. One of these terms, shared by real life retailers, is that you need a UPC to return merchandise; they do this so you can't scam them by getting your $15 rebate and sending the card back. If they exchanged his card for a new one, now, he could double up on his rebate with the new UPC code.

I've bought from newegg.com dozens of times. The one time I had a problem, also with flash memory, they RMA'd it no questions asked--because I followed the return conditions properly. The OP shouldn't have sent the rebate out without testing the product first; it's not exactly fair, but it's a Valuable Life Lesson(tm).

i agree with supersocialist, I always make sure to test out the product before I send in the rebate. And I don't open the package until I'm ready to use it.

I could not send in a second rebate, one per household...so I am not sure what they would not just exchange it and send it back into the manufacturer

Probably not worth losing customers over

Nice that they trust their customers so much. They could still make this right by sending him a new device and NewEgg could remove the UPC before doing so, so they don't get "scammed". Eric needs to elevate this to the most senior person he can find. As it stands, he was ripped off, and NewEgg will lose several of us as customers that are reading about this situation if they don't do the right thing.

If you think any company "trusts" its customers, I think you're mistaken. They have these rules in place to protect themselves from scammers, who do things like remove the UPC and send the item back. Superficially, Eric's lack of caution here resembles the behavior of a customer scamming newegg; particularly because it's a first order, a new account, like any reasonbly smart scammer would use.

I agree that he ought to push it and see if an exception can be made, but it was technically his responsibility to follow their guidelines and return policies, which I suppose he didn't bother to read.
