This is a hack I discovered (I think, sorry if it's been posted though I can't find it) that will remove the Sprint (Verizon?) carrier logo and BT icon that appears on the First line of your Today Screen. It was also remove the Contact Lookup field! They are connected.:

    HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Today\Items\"Dial Lookup"

Enabled = 0 (for off; 1 is for on)

    Warning!
    :

At least on my device, the Green Phone Button does not bring up the Submenu anymore.

I ended up remapping the Green key to the "PhoneDialer.exe" under \windows to get the main part back. I used AE Button Plus to do this.

I also noticed my speed dial via hardware key does not work anymore. If anyone can confirm these, that'd be great!

It ALSO disables your on-screen status during a phone call!!!!

NOT sure if it's worth it anymore!
    ------------------------------------------------------
You can also just TOGGLE the Contact Lookup field:

Menu --> Preferences --> Hide Lookup Field

...But this leaves the Sprint network provider/BT/Location line on.

Malatesta is there any way you can show us a screenshot? I am new to Windows Mobile so this would really help me. Thanks.

    Edited 1st post above.

I'll post an "after" shot later tonight when I get home.

Basically, you won't have those 2 lines on the Today Screen and you can put any Today Plugin now as 1st (like PhoneAlarm).

anyone got a better button remapper than ae button plus? I found it buggy and hard to figure out 6 months ago when I used it before. I like the todayscreen scape but also liked the submenu.

New version 2.5 is solid for me...not one bug. You might want to give it a shot as he's done a lot for WM5 in the last couple of months.

    From top to bottom...

    • PhoneAlarm 1.54 (full) with Jinks email skin
    • O2 Plus "Last Call" Plugin (custom)
    • Tonaya Weather to Go 4.0 (free plugin)
    • TodayAgenda 0.9.11 (free)
    • Search
    • Bug Me! 5.0

A lot of this stuff can be found at ppcGeeks.com, software section...that's where I write up on a lot of this stuff.

    Malatesta,

does the search field still work though? Meaning, if I start typing, will it start looking through my contacts Database? It will do this even if you have the search field selected to be hidden. To me, this is one of the best things about the treo.

Here Here! I second the opinion that the lookup screen is one of the most valuable features on the Treo w/wx! On other phones, I would have 9 buttons programmed for speed dial, with the Treo, there's no need, just start typing the name of who you are calling and that lookup screen shows it for you!

For all of you switching to WM5, do NOT disable this field until you've tried it out for a couple of weeks. I for one am confident that you'll realize how important and useful that it is!

No, once you disable it (the registry way) it doesn't work.

I noticed if I did disable (the menu way, like you mention above) and started typing, it did come up...but then it just stayed there, it didn't go back to hidden (yet the box stayed checked)...did I not do something right there? (I spent only about 30 seconds playing with it!).

No doubt! I however don't make many phone calls and it's easy enough to bring up my contacts or use WM5NewMenu to bring up a speed dial screen. But certainly people should try it out...it is a great feature, just one I was not interested in using! But alas, I can always bring it back with a "1".

    Update:

Bah! Disabling this also disables the on-screen menu guide during phone calls (e.g. the call status screen).

Damn you Palm for linking them all together!!! lol

I cant for the life of me figure out why palm made it so it couldnt be turned off. Im wondering if the gsm treos (when they come out) will have this problem too. Im figuring that with an unlocked gsm phone, you can swap sims, maybe the service provider line wont be there. Anyway, thanks Malatesta for giving it a shot.

    ***UPDATE***
Just looked at picture of treo 750v. It doesnt have the provider line on the today screen, but it does have a blank space at the top. Strange that it also has a plugin for sms messages that we dont have.

at least on Verizon's 700w, the Network Provider info is stored here:

    HKLM/software/msft/RIL/carriername

So I imagine that chaning the sim will alter this as well, since you can change this in the registry but as soon as it connects up to the provider, it goes to that logo (much like how PhoneAlarm can do it).

Definitely interesting about the Text message plugin though!

As soon as those GSM boys get their Treo, we'll be in hacking/tweaking harmony...those guys at XDA developers are 95% GSM, so should be of big help in moding our devices.

As to why its like that, it seems that Palm just made one giant plugin/modification to control everything.

Side note: your Right Soft Key that says "menu"? That's a Today Plugin too! If you disable it, you get the "Contacts" key back, but you also loose some functionality...I'll play around with that some more to confirm any side effects.

If you push UP on the d-pad, from the lookup field, it will hide itself again, assumibg the hide box is still checked.

    I am so confused:

I cant get to the HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Today\Items\"Dial Lookup"

Where do you find that? In windows or on the device itself? Sorry for the newbie question, but I cant find it and it's driving me nuts.

    Thanks in advance!!!
