Small Update on this from Bruce at PA:
    Hi,

This is controlled by a driver apparently - means a soft-reset would be required to activate/deactivate the backlight
Will see if I can find info on a call to set this though...
Remember, you can still post a request of there to make sure the gets implemented...! Too bad about the driver issue though.

It is possible the above app may work running style-tap emulation on the treo 700w? Or maybe the lights are hard wired differently? Someone with styletap coould give it a try?

i seriously, seriously doubt it'd work since it's a driver-level issue, not emulation.

I'd love this feature too. I'll go add my name to that guy's list.

I just updated to TCPMG 0.71RC1. It shuts off the keyboard light immediately when you start playing a video and go to full screen mode. So there *is* a way to programatically turn off the keyboard lights.

I looked at the source code of TCPMG and found the function they use to turn off and on the backlight. I've told the guy over at that pocketmax site how it is done without a soft reset or anything like that. I've also told the makers of KBLightsOff how it is done. They have expressed interest in making a version of their program for PocketPC, but they have no estimated time on when it could be made.

I'm hoping that this little function brings about something good. I'm not a pocket pc buff when it comes to programming. I'd have a heck of a time with writing all the stuff that would go around a function call like that. I just recognized that function for what it was and hopefully put it into the hands of some people that cna run with it.

this will work for adjusting both screen and keyboard lighting via the camera lens, free...dont have to register for the options u need..this application is good for when u are navigating around phone

keyshades, a more manual application to toggle keyboard on and off

Thanks for that. I hope someone comes up with something soon. It kills me to watch my battery drain for no reason.

Thanks! I am new to TREO...been a Blackberry guy for 3 years. My usage combined with the lights and screen staying on during the day are killing my battery. Ordered a Dock for plugged in use so that should help me! Any other ideas on power saving?

    THANK YOU! GREAT site!
