My guess is that it will not be that price for long. Sprint will leave the price high for the first few weeks to get all the early adopters. Then Sprint will have to match Verizon's price for the 700w.

Sprint will have to do this because the average joe will not know enough to determine what the few differences/advantages Sprint has over Verizon (i.e., program memory).

Average joe will look at the two phones and Verizon will say they are the same (and most Sprint reps too) and they will base the decision on the big price difference (700w at Verizon is $299.00 right now after rebates). Sprint is not going to let this happen.

Most people will never buy this phone or any other PDA phone. Those buying them tend to be somewhat more knowledgable and will also note that sprint is significantly cheaper than Verizon when it somes to their monthly costs. Not too mention double the memory, something anyone that bought a computer or similar device will know is a good thing.

    "But its $200 more..."

"It has double the memory and our data plan is half the price of our competitor. It will pay for itself in under a year."

Nigeria has them for cheap, lol.

if you can afford to open a new account, look at "sprintnetwork" on eBay. Maybe not right now, but in a few weeks. The 700p is only $80 from them with a new activation. I bought my 650 from them for $20 plus I had to agree to a $60 plan for 30 days. On day 31, I rolled it into my family plan (I needed a new plan anyway for my daughter).

I would have thought that too, but today changed my mind. I was in Best Buy and a Mother and Daughter were in there looking at phones from Sprint. They caught my attention when they got loud and shouted "look at this." They had found the PDA phones from Sprint. I listened to them as they as they talked about it--"oh, that would be nice." "Yeah, it has that PDA thingy." "This is the better way to go."

Clearly they are not a business client, nor were they educated. However, the fact that the phone could do more functions was a selling point. They dropped $300.00 without thinking.

I think you would be surprised how little people really know anything about technical items. The people in this forum are the exception, not the rule. They have a clue, but I bet they make up only a fraction of the buying public.

Don't expect the price to drop, Sprint charges 200 more for its 700p than verizon also. It has not changed it and its exactly the same hardware.

If any1 would take the time to read the whole playbook I posted it clearly states that the 700wx will be dropping 100 dollars come October.

    E-BAY

Ok so I found this on E-bay. I see that #1 he has a picture of a 700p when advertising a 700wx. But the $199.00 price tag, that sounds like a deal.

I already emailed him/her about the picture discrepancy. My question is has anyone ever ordered from this person? Do they get the price down through mail in rebates. Does anyone have the low down?

    Thanks,
    Ryan

    From the auction:

    Not Available to:
Customers replacing their current Sprint phone or who are eligible for the upgrade or instant rebate program
Nextel customers transfering their current phone number to Sprint
Customers wanting to buy the phone only

Looks like if you don't have service with Sprint, and don't mind doing a little eBay gambling, you may get it for $199. Personally, I wouldn't have the guts to try it...

I'll let you know in a few days

I am looking at that $199 deal as well seeing as I will be a new Sprint user.

It concerns me a bit he has a pic of the 700p on there and not the wx. On the flip side.. his reviews are good.

This place has some sick deals for other phones too... 700p for $99.. is this place for real?

    Anyone have any other input?

Hmm, in reading the feedback it appears legit.

Too bad I already have Sprint. We never get a break.

Just curious: How does add a line work? Could I add a new line, activate the wx, then do an esn swap for the wx to my main number, then cancel the additional line? Or could I just do the swap and never use the other line?

If you canceled the additional line, I think you'd get charged full price for the phone. The way the ebay people work is that they get commission for getting you to sign up with Sprint and if you cancel your line (within the first 30 or 60 days I believe), they lose their commission and they'll charge you full price for the phone.

You'd have to keep the line active for at least 30 days (I think), and by that time, you're subject to the 200 dollar ETF. If you did cancel and only have to pay the ETF, it would still technically be cheaper than retail, but it'll be more hassle, and may expand into more problems.

Got one for $299 from Sprint but I had to sign up for a new 2 year contract which I wanted to do anyway to get a better plan. Retentions gave me 1500 anytime and 7pm nights for $50 plus $5 for data.

See my post above - I purchased my 650 from sprintnetwork for $20, plus the $60 plan for 30 days. They did it all on my existing Sprint account - no money changed hands. After the 30 days, I rolled the line into my family plan, ESN swapped the Treo with my LG and gave the new number and old LG to my daughter. Yes, if you cancel anything within the first 30 days, you will get charged back on the phone rebates. They do what they say as long as you follow the directions. But if you are not a Sprint customer, you will have to give them some credit info to get the phone.

Add a line is subject to the ETF if canceled before contract end date. But if you look at the price of this phone, $10 add-a-line is not too bad even if you don't use the line.

Does anyone know if the "Palm Developers Plugged In" discount is available anymore ($100 off)? I logged onto that site and when I click on "Buy", it does NOTHING!!! I remember reading that the program was going to be discontinued, but I thought that wasn't until December 31, 2006?

    Anyone?????

Thanks bubbatex. I did an online chat with Sprint and they said I need to switch to a family plan in order to add a line of service.

No way Jose. I have a great retention plan that they couldn't pry from my cold dead hands.

    Oh well.

I purchased it via the pluggedin page (buy link, follow it again, it works) today, and yes the $100 dollar discount did work.

Also note that I purchased my 700p this way and did receive the $100 dollar coupon then as well.

    All good!
