I just upgraded from an older Palm based treo to a 700W. I love it thusfar. I have always liked the Palm form factor and I think WM5.0 is a great OS. But, given what I was used to (Palm + goodlink) I have a few questions about usability, applications, and configurations.

I use direct push active sync to synchronize to my office exchange server. This worked seemlessly and seems to have decent direct push offerings. Some questions:

    1. I occasionally get 'dialing national broadband access' is there a way to set it to just always stay connected?
    2. Is there a way to do a GAL lookup on the device? Does it 'cache' email addresses, so if I use one or manually type on, it will pull it down, or it only does that given email addresses in your address book?
    3. Is there a way to add 'public contact lists' (a contact folder in the public directory of exchange.)
    4. Is there a way to get notification of email messages delivered to subfolders?
    5. Where/how can I set message notifications to vibrate as well as make a sound?

Though I do almost all of my synching via activesync to exchange, I have a mac at home, and I'd love to be able to connect to it via bluetooth. By default the Treo does not have any 'services' the mac can use.

    My questions are:
    1. Can I use my mac with bluetooth with this device at all?
    2. Can I use the treo for EVDO access on the mac? either via cable or via bluetooth?
    3. I know there are features I can use if I have the missing sync, will this allow any of the above?

At the office we do have a GoodLink server for our palm devices. How is GL integration on this device? Does it integrate with the Palm/WM5.0 home screen or does it replace it with the GL home screen? Any quirks or usability issues with GL?

That is it for now, I am sure more questions will come up over the next few days, but I need to try to power through this to make sure this is what I want versus a 700p.

    Thanks everyone.

Tagging along on this thread since I have a few of the same questions. Is it possible to do a GAL and/or Public Folder search when composing email?

While I still don't have many of the answers, I do have some, so let me try and help you out as well.

    1. I occasionally get 'dialing national broadband access' is there a way to set it to just always stay connected?
I've not figured out how to make it stay connected, but I've just disabled the popup from coming up and that has taken care of my concerns.

Settings > Sounds and Notifications > Notifications > Connection Established, uncheck display message on screen

    2. Is there a way to do a GAL lookup on the device? Does it 'cache' email addresses, so if I use one or manually type on, it will pull it down, or it only does that given email addresses in your address book?
You can do a GAL lookup, but you must be running the latest firmware from verizon. (your phone should be 1.10) You need the messaging and security feature pack from Microsoft. You'll then get a 'check online' option when doing a contact lookup thats not in your list, which checks the GAL. I've not found a way to 'cache' often used email addresses

    3. Is there a way to add 'public contact lists' (a contact folder in the public directory of exchange.)
    Haven't figured this out

    4. Is there a way to get notification of email messages delivered to subfolders?
    Haven't figured this out

    5. Where/how can I set message notifications to vibrate as well as make a sound?
Sounds and notifications, just needed to look in the right place

Though I do almost all of my synching via activesync to exchange, I have a mac at home, and I'd love to be able to connect to it via bluetooth. By default the Treo does not have any 'services' the mac can use.

    My questions are:
    1. Can I use my mac with bluetooth with this device at all?
    No luck

    2. Can I use the treo for EVDO access on the mac? either via cable or via bluetooth?
    No luck

    3. I know there are features I can use if I have the missing sync, will this allow any of the above?
    Unsure

Where does one find this pack? MS' site wants me to install ActiveSync on the desktop, but all I really want is to gain access to the global address book on our Exchange 2003 Server.

Well, how old is your 700w? And you're currently running wireless activesync to your exchange server?

That link should help you with everything you need to know.

Its two days old, and on Sprint (not Verizon). Im running Exchange ActiveSync and can see everything except auto-recognition of names (phone numbers, email addresses) on our public folders.

You won't get 'auto recognition' it will be 'lookup' based.
