Funny you mention that, because that's the only reason I bought my 6700 - to use my SlingBox and the other multimedia goodies that WinMob5 allows. I don't even use my 6700 as a phone, it is setup as my free add-a-line on my grandfathered 2000/$85 plan. I use my Treo 650 as my everyday phone for calls, because it just plain works better as a phone, IMHO. The 6700 comes out for TV

If SlingPlayer works on the Verizon 700w, it will work fine on the Sprint version...heck, you might not even need the WiFi card - PowerVision is usually plenty fast for very good quality streaming...

Agree. Sling Box is great as well as Skype.
I carry now the Treo 650 for phone and the 6700 as a loaner from my company for internet applications..

I was in South America last week and thanks to the Wi-FI hotspot at the hotel I was able to use 6700 for the Sling Box and for Skype. That was great. The 650 with roaming would have been a $1 / min plus other charges.

As far as shape and form I prefer the treo 650, but the screen is better and larger in the 6700 (heavier). I returned the treo 700p because I could not use it for Skype and SlingBox.
So if the treo 700wx combines both that would be great.
But if no wi-Fi for the treo 700WX it sucks?

And KINDLY tell us again why Sprint would not make the 700wx WIFI capable?

I think this is more of a Palm decision than anything. When I was playing with a verizon 700w I never found myself needing WiFi. I know when I had a 6700 the battery life was horrible. I have the E300 Socket card on order for my wx but don't expect a lot of use for it.

WIFI is a battery HOG and I can assure you EV-DO can be (not always of course) just as fast "on the device." Personally, I never used wifi on any of my devices I've had in the past. But to each his own I'm sure

My Sprint guy said they won't be in until the end of SEPTEMBER...

But he will hold one for me nonetheless..

I do hope they show up tomorrow or next week!

Business sales have them available tomorrow, according to the business rep that answered the phone a little bit ago.

I guarantee you throw in a 802.11g SDIO card you'll change your tune.

I don't even have 'g' on my 6700 and 'b' is faster than EvDO (we're talking 4000kbps on the low, average end for 'b' versus < 1000kbps on the high end for evdo). That's taking into account the processor and any bottlenecks: anyone who uses wifi on a ppc will tell you it's much faster than the best evdo.

It's a battery hog, but if you're at home or in hotel room and you're plugged in or can re-charge quickly, it's totally worth it. Especially if you're in an area with poor or no EvDO coverage. No reason to argue out of having it as option...it's very nice.

Yeah, I second this question. I assume you have to call business sales and then they ship the phone? I want to go into Sprint tomorrow morning at 8 and get one because it will be a business phone on a business account, but we're not a big business or anything. Can anyone elaborate pretty please?

You can try but most likely they will not sell you the phone. Retail release is supposedly only a week after so not really a big deal but yah it sucks to wait.

I've heard people claim that they've allowed them to order the phones only to be pissed when it never ships. There were a few different people on pdaphonehome.com which said they were able to get the 6700 during its business only time but they were the exception.

Its hard to tell sometimes on the net when someone is full of bull.

Aridon, thank you for posting. My heartburn can't stand too much more waiting. My son is watching an online countdown timer for one of the DS games to be available. Rather than wonder when the 700wx will be released, I would be much happier to see a timer with "Next Treo coming in 45 days, 2 hours, and 10 minutes!"

I spoke to my contact at sprint tonight, I was told that it's going to be sold tomorrow. I asked about only business customers being able to buy it tomorrow and I was told that the computer is not showing any restrictions as of now, but it could change. I'm supposed to get a call giving an update, once I hear I'll post it.

Palm usually launches on midnights Sundays, but Sprint is saying it will be available tomorrow. I wonder if Palm might do a midnight launch tonight.
