I am about to move to the Daytona Beach area and wanted to find out if anyone knows how the EVDO signal is. I am currently in the Bay Area in CA so I always have good service. Any ideas?

The answer is simple, NO, NADA, NYET. In the greater Daytona area all you get is 1X service. The only way to get EVDO is to hop onto I4 and head for Orlando or I95 to Jax.

That sucks. Well hopefully I will relocate to Orlando in a few months after being in Daytona.

I would hardly say that Daytona Beach is "right next to" Orlando...It's a good 90 minute drive.

    EDIT STARTS:

Ooops... forgot that this is 700w forum. So you guys must be on Verizon... Sorry!

    EDIT ENDS

Hmm... wonder if the EV-DO coverage would be different for different carriers (i.e. Verizon/Sprint)?

Anyway for Verizon the coverage locator on their website is: http://www.verizonwireless.com/b2c/C...ype=NEWREQUEST .

    For Sprint: http://www1.sprintpcs.com/explore/co...Plans_Coverage

Looks like Daytona Beach has EV-DO if Sprint is telling the truth: http://www1.sprintpcs.com/explore/co...=1155576819952
    T R E O s t i l l R O C K S - to a certain extent
    Current: AT&T Tilt/HTC 8925/Kaiser
    Retired: AT&T Treo 750, VZW Treo 650, 700p, *700w, *700wx (* = loaner phone from Palm)
    Tried: AT&T Samsung Blackjack i607

Whoops, to me too! I was going by Sprint, since that is who I have.

Not sure about Daytona Beach...but I live in Orlando and have "EV".

However, I'm lucky to get one bar for signal strength at our condo in New Smyrna Beach, which is about 25 minutes south of Daytona, and it's "1X". Our condo is on the south end of the island; signal is much better on the north end (4-5 bars), but still "1X".

My brother-in-law has Cingular Treo 650 and gets 4-5 bars at our place. Will probably switch to Cingular when the "750" WM5 version comes out later this year!

Thanks for the info. You seem to be right in the area where I will be staying
