Anyone of you guys with the Treos tried this yet? I did it on my XV6700 lastnight and it seems to manage my memory a lot better. I did a soft rest and had 30.10mb ram and after opening afew programs it would end up to be around 22.53 give take maybe a meg or two. After I did the reghack I'm consistently at around 27 to 29 mb free range.

    Just create a empty key:

    HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Shell\NeverDorkMemory

    kinda realtime memory defragmenter

    Link

^give that guy the credit, and try it out I do notice more free ram and a bit quicker.

Make sure you do a soft rest after the hack, when I did it I did a rest set before did the hack and rest after. I'm noticing a pretty good amount of free mem difference, but hey its worth a shot if you don't have to keep going back into the mem manager to close programs.

I performed the hack, and am still trying it out. I'm not noticing any substantial gain. If anything it just seems to get back leaked RAM quicker. If I leave my device idle for a while the device will slowly regain some of the lost RAM. With this it seems to do it right when I close the open programs. I'll keep trying it to see if it's actually doing that though.

Well I did the hack and before I was registering around 4-7 mb free sometimes more but would drop as each app was opened and would not recover until a reset. Now I'm have 12-14 free and it stays consistant when I am opening and closing apps. Don't know if I am imaging things but it appears to work.

it does nothing. memory still leaks out of my 700w, and it is not recovered.

I was skeptical, but I can report it's working for me as well on the 700w.

I did a soft reset and then checked the memory level
Made the reg hack, then waited 5 minutes to make sure the reg got saved
I did another soft reset and then rechecked the memory level

I got back a couple of mb! It does seem a little snappier but I could be imagining that, the memory gain is real and quantifiable.

As always, YMMV, the memory gain or lack thereof may depend on what combination of apps one has installed.

well damn!.....this DOES work.....it may not add more memory per say......but it loads that memory back after closing an app right away!....and ALL of it.....i did a soft reset, then opened resco registry editor and added the key.....closed registry editor and did another soft reset.....before had 9.7 and now running flat rate at 9.6.....ive opened practically all my programs and after closing each one im right back to 9.6m....so im happy! thanx

I did not get anything out of this hack. Same memory as before. Did a soft reset before and after the hack.

If you did not see any change you might try,

    tweakradje:
"...I have 55 MB memory free after a (hard reset) and after the usual apps and data still about 35 Megs free..."

I actually watched my memory change on the phone. It was checking my email so I went to look and see how much memory I had which at the time, I was sitting at 8.12 MB free which before when it would run and then stop the free mem wouldn't change. Now after the hack when it finished checking it jumped from 8.12 to 9.03 free.

I have a nice cold six-pack of your favorite frothy beverage for anyone in the DC area that can do this to my phone. I am too much of a wuss to do it myself since I don't know what I am doing, but can vouch for severe memory leak that is driving me to drink (more).

    thanks in advance.

masseyc_99, you should save the cost of alcohol for you and your helper monkeys, get a copy of Resco Registry editor, and add the key. It is pretty simple.

Budman45, if you already have a registry editor do this:

    1. Open it.
    2. Go to HKey_Current User (HKCU for short).
    3. Go to Software.
    4. Go to Microsoft.
    5. Go to Shell.
    6. Tap Menu.
    7. Tap New >.
    8. Tap Key.
    9. Type in NeverDorkMemory. No spaces, case sensitive.
    10. Click OK.
    11. Click OK again.
    12. Soft reset with the stylus or a utility like Wei's Soft Reset.

    Done diddy done.

By the way, I've got just over 15MB memory free. Not bad.
  19. #19
With 3rd party apps running like WBA and a couple today plugins, BT on and VC on. I was averaging 3.22MB free. Now with this hack it is up to 4.77 average. I started and closed just about every proggie on the thing and just left the aforementioned running like ususal.

    Nice Reg Edit!

Update... I did a second soft reset and now I'm up to 6.79MB with all the startup apps running..

I'm down to 11mb and change with ActiveSync and Outlook on, as well as Resco Today plug-in running.
