Is this currently the only way to get HiFi stereo for my home or car out of my 700w?

Sorry, but this bulky thing is dissapointing. There must be some kind of patch or registry hack to hold us over until A2DP arrives. Even my motorolla Mpx220

Of course the Treo isn't an ipod killer. Then again, the ipod makes a lousy PDA, and for some reason none of the calls I try to make on my wife's ipod go through!

The Treo does a lot better job at playing music than the ipod does at making phone calls.

I don't even talk on the phone. But a handheld multimedia pc with an always on broadband connection to my terrabyte video and mp3 collection would be an ipod killer, if only the g0ddamn a2dp or stereo jack worked, lol.

I am getting great sound using just a standard 2.5mm to 3.5mm adapter (Seidio 2-in-1 Adapter and a JP's cradle with build in 2.5mm to 3.5mm output). I am streaming audio and playing MP3's to my computer speakers and they sound great (no, not up to studio reference standards but not too shabby). I tried an FM transmitter in my car but the transmitter sucked (limited on available frequencies). I will try again with the IRiver FM transmitter which gives me unlimited frequency choices.

I have tried the tunecast fm transmitter. Saying it sucks is an understatement. Yes it tunes any channel, but it borders on a hoax, the sound quality was that bad.

First of all, Treo's are Blackberry killers, and second of all, Bluetooth A2DP stereo audio stream is finally possible on the Treo...so let the iPOD killing begin

Actually I found a standard 2.5 to 2.5 adaptor to work pretty well on the 700 and when files are played with windows media player, it sounds pretty good. But the line is noisy, what do you expect? The stereo connector is muxed for several different lines... All in all, it's quite acceptable considering it does a little of everything.

Ahhhhh....the 700w forum....OK maybe the 650 is an iPOD killer

The one I tired was the Monster. The only thing worse (or as bad) was one of the things you plug into a cassette. Yikes!!!!

Jedi, a windows moble pc that gives access to my terabyte mp3 and video collection over EDVO, as well as new content "on demand" in real time. As well as sirius satellite radio and XM. THAT is an ipod killer.

A cellphone that can accept SD cards and stream it over bluetooth is not. I had that with my mpx220.

We're talking about 3g phones here.

Although if the mystical 700p/800p materializes and gives me stereo over bluetooth as well as 3g data before the Windows Mobile a2dp update comes out. I may see about trading in.

Wait...sorry for being late to the party here, but the 700w doesn't have A2DP profile enabled even though it has BT 1.2?

Yeah maybe it doesn't hold a gazillion mp3s (like you can legitimately have the need for 20gb of anything while on the go) but when you can get an ipod to stream all the porn on your home pc to you anywhere you are, then come back here and compare the 700 with your ipod....

exactly DJRoppolo, and as far as i know, i cant stream my live cable tv channels from home to my ipod, and my ipod cannot download mp3s and videos directly from easynews or napster

    gfunkmagic,

Apparrently A2DP will be a part of Windows Mobile 5 AKU 2 which is due out March of 2006.

Stereo yes, but expecting to get "HiFidelity" out of the $14 (I am being generous I think) sound subsystem on the Treos is like trying to find gourmet quality food at a theme park. You can satisfy your hunger but it's not what the things were designed to do.

not true at all, and more importantly, not an excuse for the bug in the treo's 2.5 mm hardware switch or more accurately not an excuse for the fact that they even used a hardware switch in the first place

there's no hardware difference between what is happening decoding mp3s out to this 2.5mm jack than there is with the 3.5mm jack on the ipod, or the 3.5mm jacks on any motherboard on just about any modern pc, the "subsystem" your talking about, really does not do much

and 44.1/48 KHz 16-bit is just fine for hi-fi

Admittedly the A2DP should be a much better solution, where i'll have a digital connection (albeit compressed ... according to Microsoft "near CD quality") then over to my AV reciever via optical digital to let my amplifier do the d/a conversion
