got it all configured and tried to run the first sync manually

actually I could see that it connected, it said...

connecting DMU, syncing now, so it is actually syncing, but then it abruptly stops and says "no sync possible, flight mode is active"

this is very discuraging, because the phone is connected and the internet is connected.

I don't know why it "thinks" the Treo is in flight mode. ANy ideas?

yes I know, went into a vzw store to test it with their phones and the same thing happened with the 700 and 6700 (WOW what a phone, I may get that instead). You should try the following in this order:

Registry change to force always on connection:
    http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=830487

You can download a registry editor here:
    http://www.freewareppc.com/utilities...ryeditor.shtml

You can also try keeping the connection on with:
    http://www.pocketgear.com/software_detail.asp?id=12673

    and this:
    http://www.pocketgear.com/software_detail.asp?id=19239

the registry change may do the trick, try it first. If it doesn't work, download the trial versions of the other programs and try those. Please let me know how it turns out. thanks!

no dice. registry hack did not work. also downloaded "gprs keep alive" and that didn't work either. something in the Treo 700w ain't matching up well with the "email push" software.

oh well. such a waste of time.

Try this. I found a link regarding the flight mode issue:

    http://pdaphonehome.com/forums/showt...ght=flightmode

flight mode usually means the phone isn't on.

Here is another flight mode link: Also, make sure when you tap on the signal bars FLIGHT MODE IS OFF.

if that doesn't work, some treo 700 users have reported success with this product under development:

    http://www.vgsmail.com/ppc/

seems to slow device down a little while it works in the background but it might work for you. Similar concept to office2go but it requires an IMAP server that supports the IDLE command (most do). Here is a free one:

    wannatreo ....

    good find, but,

this is what the thread says for the 6700:

"Go to the registry and change the following key:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER -> ControlPanel -> PhoneExtendFunction -> CDMA

    Change FlightModeSwitchByPnHEndKey to 0"

THe registry in the 700w does not have the same key. The only key I could find with a flight mode reference was under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Security\Phone-> SuppressFlightModePrompt

I changed it from a 1 to a 0 but it didn't prevent the "email push" application from bombing on me again. crap !!!!
