For those who may be now pondering the your eventual leap over to the other side of the pond, but are not sure about the Software selection you might (or might not) have, here are couple points that might help you out.

    • PC Mag this month (or maybe last month now) has a good review of Palm vs WM OS taking it point by point. In their 3rd party sofware section they noted that on Handago there is is only a difference of like 1,000 titles with both just under 20,000 to offer. The said what made up the difference is Palm has more unique and specific freeware, like tide tables for kayakers.
      .
    • Here is a list of software for WM that I posted quite awhile ago, but is still just as valid a list:

      Software For PPC
      .
    • Here are the 2005 Software Awards (devided up into categories with links) from PocketPC magazine for 3rd party WM software:

When I made the switch, I found that a wealth of built in or bundled software in WM compared to Palm helped with not buying duplicate software. I also found that companies that offer both Palm and WM versions will give a greatly discounted rate for buying the other...or even give a copy free in rare cases.

    I hope this helps.

Thanks Hobbes... I'm considering the 6700 pretty hard, but will probably wait to see the specs on the 700p before I make the call.

Hobbs - I've got a friend with a Samsung i730 and she's wondering if there's a way to get an AOL IM client up and running on it. I didn't see any IM clients in your killer software list (tho admittedly there's a lot on your list) - any recommendations you might have in this area?

I use IM+ by Shape (sorry, no link since I'm mobile) and it works great. It's not a subscription. It supports AIM and most every other IM system.
AgileMessenger is another one and it's unique in that it has a Today plug-in.

I'm using IM+ right now. I've used Agile before and it works fine. It used to be free, but they now charge for it. I liked IM+ because it supports more IM systems and seems to be more actively developed and supported.
