One of my friends installed a unixscphyco alpha kernel to get 1.2 Ghz, even though I told him that his phone was not going to boot. His volume up button is broken too. Is there anyway else for him to access recovery mode? Thanks in advance.

You could try option+symbol+R as soon as you power on the device. Failing that follow the Emergency Boot Loader steps here:

Due to the cancellation of the penny, I no longer give 2 about anything. I may however, give a nickel

Do exactly that. When I tried installing the 1.4ghz kernel on my Pre 2 I also got a boot loop and this solved it.

Used the emergency boot loader steps, worked perfectly.
