Please forgive me If I'm asking something stupid, I just bought a Pre+ and I'm REALLY loving the experience (I can't believe this phone is not more popular!), but I'd really like to update to OS2.1. I notice that the update is available for O2 phones in Germany but not for us in the UK.
Is there some way to update my phone to 2.1?
Is there a step by step idiots guide to updating a uk pre+? Any help would be gratefully appreciated.

    Welcome to WebOS !

You are right officially only 1.4.5 is available for o2 uk. However you can install the o2 Germany webos 2.1.0 image without any mod. It works out of the box.

    However, note that:
This update is not over the air, so will reset the device to factory defaults. But will restore apps etc from your profile.

The process to install is using the webos doctor, I am recommend to read a few threads like this one

Best of luck..see you on the other side

Woohoo. I only got the phone 2 days ago so I have no paid apps, just a few texts and some emails offering Viagra so, all in all, not much to lose really! Creating a new Palm Profile will be no problem at all!!
Thx guys, really looking forward to doing this...

    Darn!
I put my serial number in and it says I can only download 1.45.
Where can I get V2.1 from?

    Is it here?

    Help!
I followed the instructions, put the phone into USB mode and then ran the updater. The doctor program ran, asked me if I wanted to update, I said yes and something happened for 30 seconds, the pre screen went black with a palm logo in the middle.
The doctor program quit in a few seconds and nothing is telling me on the PC that something's being updated.
The Pre still has the black screen with palm written on it.
Is this how it's supposed to work?

Please help, I hope I've not bricked the phone...

Its not possible to truly brick a pre, dont worry..

The doctor program usually goes from 0-100% during the update process. If this is not happening, try repeating the process using the recovery mode.

Great, thanks for that. I re-started the process but now it's been stuck at 4% for around 20mins and the big USB symbol is on the phone screen. Can I assume that it's frozen - it got to 4% within a minute or so and just stayed there!
Can I just yank the battery out and try again?

    I'm running Win7 X64.

think you'll have to decide yourself. If you do and it doesnt boot
try holding volume up then turn it on. That should put you in recovery mode. You can then plug in usb and redoctor

    All Done!!
Just a couple of tips for those who are also in a similar situation. This worked for me but your mileage may vary and this applies ONLY to my Pre+ that was locked on O2 UK.

    1) Download the German WebOS Doctor file

    2) Put the phone into the appropriate mode (hold down the vol up key, connect the USB to the computer and quickly pop the battery in)

    3) When the large USB symbol appears on the phone, let the vol up key go.

    4) Make sure that you turn off Zone Alarm or similar firewall

    5) Make sure you switch off any anti virus software

    4) Now launch the previously downloaded Doctor file

    5) Sit back and wait for it all to finish.

    6) Create a NEW Palm Profile

    7) Enjoy!

The difference is amazing! The Pre+ just flies after the update and the extra features are making my head spin!

Now to get down to some serious playing....

    Thx guys

    Well done!

For even more juicy stuff, explore the patches and overclocking..

    Both via Preware

For anyone thinking about updating to 2.1 on their O2uk pre+, I just did it myself a few days ago and Im loving it. It's mentioned in the wiki pages to read everything twice - seriously do read everything twice and you'll get everything done without any troubles

If the virus checker does heuristic checking then something writing to a USB in a different mode to normal could be considered suspicious.

Firewall shouldn't make a difference. Last time I used Zone Alarm though it was filled with all sorts of bugs that caused BSODs. There isn't really any reason to use it these days when the Windows Firewall provides essentially the same functionality

Well, this could go on for ages. All I know is that I tried three times and failed each time. The forth time, I switched off ZA and the antivirus in desperation and it zoomed thru to completion without ANY problems.
If you have problems getting it to work, try switching the AV and ZA (if you use it) off!

Yeah, you would wouldn't you. Clearly they weren't at my computer, trying to get my pre to update for a couple of hours
Like I said, if all else fails, try this and don't worry about dogma.
