Try renaming the prefromlist to: "Sprint_60677.prl" (capital S - no quotes) then tar that and feed PmModemUpdate that tarball.

Interesting. The "funny version" that I was pointed to has 1.6. Perhaps I have a "funny" "funny version". This is getting confusing!

Can you pls post or pm me if you don't want to post it?

I don't know that someone else's directory will directly help others. There's a file (at least one, maybe more) that contains our individual MEID and an "AuthKey" (not sure what that is for). My MEID isn't the same as yours. Actually even my GF's Pre (even on the same Family Plan) is a different MEID. So her directory won't DIRECTLY help even me. It's something that a User needs to do on their phone (as of this typing - I haven't picked it all apart yet).

I'll be MORE than happy to share stuff out (and get as much as possible into the Wiki for the masses), once we all know exactly what's needed.

I think there are two floating around. The doctor with CC1.8(587) is build 337.

    THANK YOU!

    Device Info says 60677?

Can we get another successful test?

    I'm outlining complete steps now.

    Yup.

Though I note that I am suddenly getting no signal - even after rebooting. Though I can roam over onto Verizon just fine, it seems. I also cannot go back to 60676, apparently.

I wish HP would come up with a provisioner binary that works, but ah well. It'd be nice to "correctly" be able to update the PRL and network settings...

So where are we at? I think this is the complete HOW TO (short version for debugging):

    On 1.4.5:

    1. cd /var/lib/software
    2. tar -cjvf /media/internal/modem_soft_save.tar.bz2 *

    <<DOCTOR>>

    On 2.1:

    1. cd /var/lib/software
    2. tar -xvf /media/internal/modem_soft_save.tar.bz2
    3. reboot

    <<GET PRL FILE>>

    1. rename (PRL FILE) to Sprint_60677.prl
    2. tar -cf prl_update.tar Sprint_60677.prl
    3. PmModemUpdater < /path/to/prl_update.tar

    Is this all correct?

Ok thanks for the clear answer. Since I didn't copy any files from 1.45, it seems like I can't use the method you guys so cleverly discovered. What about going back to 2.01, has anyone done this and then gotten the needed files from 2.01 and gone forward to 2.1? If so, could you please post your results?

Honestly, I'm not 100% sure now. If PmModemUpdater works on an unmodified meta-doctor, then in theory, do we need to make a back up while still on 1.4.5?

Can you run that test (assuming you have a virgin meta-doctor version of /var/lib/software)?

Try using the third section of steps in the post I just made about all the steps, but, just worry about tar-balling the PRL file and running PmModemUpdater.

    #######
    # EDIT:

To clarify (since that didn't make much sense...)

Please try the three steps under "<<GET PRL FILE>>". That should, in theory) get your PRL up-to-date.

In case you didn't see my edit, please note there *may* be a problem - I get no bars on Sprint after updating. I can only get bars when I roam over to Verizon. I also cannot downgrade back to 60676.

are you saying doctor back to 2.0.1 and try this? Because I looked at my 2.1 Pre using internalz and ModemFiles subdirectory is there but is empty so I assume I don't have a PRL file on the Pre to rename.

No, I didn't see the edit. Thank you for reposting!

Are you unable to go back because your don't have the old PRL, or because it won't let you? If it won't let you, try:

    PmModemUpdater < old_prl_tarball.tar -m

    "-m" forces the install.

    #######
    # EDIT:

Also, have you rebooted? Or was it AFTER a reboot that it conked out on you?

I've tried rebooting a few times. Haven't tried -m, though I had tried -f. Just got back from lunch, was going to try -m. And I haven't gotten back because it won't let me - I still have my old PRL file.

-m does not appear to have worked either - Device Info still says 60677. Trying a reboot.

    It's -u Sorry about that...

Yeah I got the same thing. I tried the 60677 PRL and could only roam. I was able to successfully restore my 60676 PRL with -m

No, you do want -m, in your case.

I'm just dumb. I have the 1.4.5 emulator open as well right now (working on an app that I need to check cross-compatibility). I must've connected to it accidentally when I initially wrote my post...

It looks like it was a different switch in 1.4.5.

Still no dice, despite it saying it is completing:

Ok, I'm back on 60676 - I may have just not had a "good" PRL file to go back to. I grabbed a copy from somewhere else. I wonder if I got 60677 from there when they finally put it up, I might have better luck.

It's weird, though - the md5 sums of prefroamlist from my backup of /var/lib/software and what I downloaded are the same.
